Geez, I wasn't comparing him to Amen in any way. Just saying he was playing well.

Did you have a brain fart but I don't think Amen plays on the Canadian national team

Brooks seems to thrive in FIBA games. He did well in the World Cup last year too.

I'm telling yall right now!! Y'all better start putting some respeck on Dillon Brooks' name!! Hes still got it and he will be bringing it back to Houston.
Plus ol' Landale and McVeigh are showing out!! We got us a squad of veterans that can run with the best of the league! We are going to make some noise this season!
Time to quit with all these trade talks. Let's run with what we got.

There's a clear flaw with the 3PT defense luck argument. It's almost entirely based on open and wide open shots.

An open shot can be from 25 feet or 35 feet. If we push opponents out further than the average, they will have less "luck" making their open 3's. This tanks the whole premise of luck in the argument.

I can understand there being a case for this in the pre-Morey NBA era. These days though, there seems a strong correlation between teams who believe in taking a lot of 3's and teams who take away 3's aggressively from their opponents. That makes a lot of sense because that's how a coach would behave on defense if he believed in the value of 3PTers.

Also just with your eyes guys: you can challenge 3's more aggressively than other teams and this is obviously the dominant factor.

The FIBA 3 point line is closer to the hoop. Like an NBA corner 3.

The Canadian brotherhood is tigher than NBA brotherhood, he plays with teammates he has known since his childhood.

They treat him like a 2nd to third option.

    National pride and hero.

Nembhard finished the game with 18 points on 8-for-10 shooting and led Canada in efficiency with 19. Gilgeous-Alexander had previously named him as the most surprising player on the squad. He stuck to his words after the tough win. “I would say the same thing. I knew he was good, obviously. Didn’t know he was this good,” Shai smiled. “He’s a really talented player, he works hard. Super poised, can pass, can do a lot of things on the basketball court to hurt you. Whatever team has him, it’s lucky to have him.” “He was aggressive, and he just took what [the] defense gave him. He never forced it. That’s what makes him him,” Gilgeous-Alexander explained.

Yeah I think he also plays less like the NBA villain and more like the national hero in his demeanour too (I'd imagine that he's on a shorter leash anyway with representing his nation) and he seems more in control in all honesty. He looks really good out there either way, kudos to him.

Dunno about Franchise player or all this crazy trade talk either. Before any trade talk occurs we must first understand why Brooks was brought here. The team reportedly wanted to establish a culture of toughness, defense, and professionalism. It seemed They overpaid him to ensure his signing because he’s the guy they wanted to help propel this young core. We know he has great defensive awareness and instincts and a vocal leader despite the techs. We know he doesn’t back down from taking on superstars. Again vets and players like him give a team an edge and hard to replace. You want a guy like this. Eason isn’t vocal, weak on running a full court fast break, and doesn’t have the same edge and Amen can’t shoot so no their abilities are not redundant.

FIBA Brooks is like FIBA Melo, just not the same in the NBA. Semi-joking but I got really frustrated with Brooks fouling more as the season progressed and he was rarely enough of a threat on offense to make up for it. Lost the ball too often and his drives were really hit and miss. Let’s see how he does this year as no way Ime will want him in any trade.

Sorry. You’re right. Starting Brooks over Amen, which is almost certainly going to happen, is my personal pet peeve. I want him traded so that Amen, Tari, and Cam can get more minutes. You are right I shouldn’t have responded to your post like I did.

I'm not actually stressed about the Brooks situation. He clearly has value, I could see us moving him (for the exact reason of needing the minutes) and actually getting something valuable in return. I think people have gotten used to us having to pay people to take our garbage that they've forgotten what it's like trading an actual asset lol.

What do you think a team would trade for brooks? If a team offered say an expiring for brooks and a protected first, would you say no?

IMO, he neither has positive value or negative value due to his excessive contract. A pair of 2nd rounders maybe.

Don't forget the contract decreases rather than increases. I'd say that makes it more valuable than a zero-sum personally. You're effectively getting a discount on his services going forward, especially with the cap likely to increase not decrease.

I believe he is due $21+M in year 3 and $19+M in year 4. While your point helps his future value some, I don't see him bringing back much in a trade. If he plays on fire this coming season, then sure, he has the ability to increase his value. The opposite is true also.

Yeah that's fair, I just think he's better than people give him credit for in all honesty. If he could dial in some of the wilder villain behaviours he'd be valuable to any contender.

He can’t play on a contender, his offense just kills you. He can really only play on a bad team that’s trying to be mediocre

I agree with you that he is a good player (a bit overpaid), but we have a plethora of guys that can play his position that have higher ceilings/upside. And the time is just about right to see what those other guys can do. So I think this is the primary motivation in moving him, not because he is a bad player.

Oh I agree, like I said a couple of posts ago, I fully think he'll get moved to clear the minutes for Amen/Cam/Tari. I just don't think we'll have to attach stuff to get people to take him, I think he'll have interest.
