It isn't worth it. It really really sucks. There's exactly *one* area Jalen is above NBA average at. He's literally below average everywhere else.

I think most people on the board are in agreement on Jalen to varying degrees. Just a few dudes who keep popping in to every thread to hijack it and get into weirdo arguments. Ignore function and move on.

I think the only reason that Alperen Sengun has not been extended is because of Jalen Green. If they extend Sengun but not Green, Green might feel as if he is not as valued and that could affect his confidence and play, which may lower his trade value. I do not think the Rockets want to extend Green because of his inconsistencies.

Sengun is not being extended because the Rockets want to have the option for cap space next offseason. If the Rockets were caring about a player's feelings such that they were worried it would affect their play, they would extend Sengun not to hurt Sengun's feelings.

I still think odds are good that the Rockets best option will be to remain an above the cap team.

The reason we haven't extended anyone is to save our cap space for a potential FA signing or to absorb in a trade. If we use it now on an extension, it limits what we can do during the season. After the trade deadline, maybe we do and extension.

At this point, its not about personalities or who is deserving. It might be later in the season though.

I think cap management wise, it’s better to wait till the next offseason to discuss extensions for both of them, regardless of how they perform during the season. We can use the cap space to acquire a big free agent or two. And then go over the cap to resign them. But it may hurt their feelings. So who knows.

Staying above the cap has its benefits, too. I doubt the Rockets use cap space on a big free agent. If the Rockets do end up going the cap space route, it will likely be to make things simpler in a trade or to extend FVV.

So, again, I ask the cap experts: What is the point of having a bunch of cap space next season? Let's look at the Cavs -- they have three guys signed to max, and one signed to a large non-max contract. They are projected to be just under the first apron next season. Honestly, I could see something similar with us -- for illustrative sake: Amen/Sengun/Sheppard on max contracts with Bari on a non-max. We're actually in a better spot than the Cavs in this regard because we have more draft capital to replenish with inexpensive talent. But if we sign a big free agent next season, doesn't that complicate our ability to resign our guys? This gets especially hairy if Green breaks out and earns a max.

The reason no extensions were given has nothing to do with cap space really, it's that one guy is worth the extension and the other isn't so they want to give the guy who isn't worth it one more chance to learn how to play basketball before admitting failure.

I don't really know what you're talking about. The point of my post is that Sengun has obviously earned the max, but they are not extending it to preserve cap space. But to what end? Signing a big FA would do nothing more than inhibit our ability to sign our own guys.

We can go over the cap to sign our guys since we have bird rights if I’m not mistaken.
So the plan should be to sing big free agents who can contribute BIG time and then extend out studs

Maybe I'm wrong, but I just can't see the Rockets going over the first apron, which is highly likely if the plan is to sign a big FA AND resign our guys.

I'm saying that's not the reason.

If you extend the 16th pick and not the 2nd pick, it shows what you think about that player and kills whatever trade value he might have... plus likely making him a locker room problem.

So they extend no one, hoping either Jalen becomes good enough to extend or that he can be traded before the deadline.

    Remember the chandler parson fiasco?

we tried to wait to extend him because we were trying to sign Chris Bosh. Same scenario

we want to try to sign a big free agent and then extend sengun/ green.

Sengun's extension is waiting on the Rox trading Green. If/when that happens Sengun will get one....but if it happens after the start of the season it will be next summer.

As for Green he is out of here.

Incorrect. Sengun cannot get extended because of his low cap hold. It would be beyond asinine to extend him now.

It’s not just FA. You also have way more options to make trades
