I like Cam but just because he shoots the ball better than Jalen doesn't make him better than Jalen. I agree the dude has earned more playing time but he has to show more as both a defender and as a passer to be a starter because today he is fairly one dimensional and he didn't necessarily change that perception in Summer League.
I didn't have time earlier but now that I'm free, I'll answer that question for you: Last year out of All Guards in the NBA Jalen was #178 in shooting percentage "from the floor." Jalen was #183 in 3 point percentage .... out of guards. TS% #164 out of guards. EFG% ....#184, again, just out of guards. See for yourself. the info came from NBA.com ..... Players Advanced | Stats | NBA.com
There are 30 teams each have 2 guards. 60 are starters -> 120 are first reserve if all teams rotate both guards with different players, which they don’t. His placement on these list warrants him spot minutes around the league just by data alone. (It’s year 4).
Spot minutes yes but other teams would give 2 shets about him and bench him accordingly if he has a slump. The Rox were giving him and KPJ tons more leeway than any normal team would have. His march madness explosion would have only saved part of his trade value.
"spot minutes" "other teams would bench him" While those same teams game plan to stop him each night. LOL
Ya, someone replied that they were moving goal posts with the claim that Jalen gets doubled a lot by saying "oh now you are just saying it's on the pick and roll" as if that isn't like he bread and butter of most of Jalen's possessions and where most guards do their playmaking from.
The fact that everyone knows Jalen will be dominating the ball no matter what and that he's not skilled enough to make your team pay for it if you just leave several guys open in order to double and triple team him isn't a good thing for him.... it just shows he has a VERY low BBIQ and lacks the court vision and passing ability to prevent that kind of thing from happening. Instead his mindless chucker nature leads to nothing but bad shot attempts and turnovers when teams do that.
We all watch the games over the years. Jalen is Jalen. The month of March was him playing up to his pre draft expectations. The winning streak happened because there was production out of the shooting guard in a weakest part of the schedule. The season ended much like it started, because he slid back to his mean. As of last year he became a below average defender instead of near last in the league. If we had an average defender and average offensive player at the off guard the TEAM would be so much more than average. We are good now. What could it be? The data shows the weak link. Most already knew.
Fascinating isnt it? They've broken every single logical fallacy known to man in their quest to create a villain.
The data shows a player with poor individual efficiency and high usage who somehow has the second highest positive on/off impact on team offensive efficiency per possession only behind FVV: https://cleaningtheglass.com/stats/team/11/onoff#tab-team_efficiency According to cleaning the glass, Jabari would be the weakest link out of the starting line up at least.
Jalen isn't a villain, he's just not any good at basketball and normal people are no longer willing to ignore it. You crazy cultists are always so dramatic and overly emotional lol.
I don't have time to check and I don't know @Corrosion's parameters. Players with spot minutes should be excluded from the ranking. Their small sample sizes would skew it. For example, Samuels, Bullock, and Hinton all had higher TS% than the rotation players. That said, if Jalen ranked near the bottom of ALL guards, then he would rank near the bottom of rotation guards too.
Jalen is inefficent, his value doesnt come from efficency yet. There is more to basketball than just efficiency. ITs so absurd how hyper fixated we have all become since Morey showed up. Before being attacked on that comment, I 100% agree its one of the most important facets of basketball and Jalen 100% needs to be better and more efficient. Jalen provides something we desperately need as a roster configuration. We need self creation on the perimeter and someone who breaks down the defense. Jalen is one of the better players in the league at doing this. He just isnt efficent enough yet. None the less he is still incredibly valuable to this team. I'm almost tired of hearing that march was just getting HOT. IT was everything coming together. He was playing very good defense, which he has shown signs of here and there but was inconsistent. He was facilitating very well, which he has shown signs of but was inconsistent. He was rebounding very well, which he has shown signs of but was inconsistent. He was shooting well, which he has shown signs of getting hot but is inconsistent and streaky. All year he was showing signs of improvement everywhere at different parts of the season. Come March it was all on full display together at the same time, and it was a superstar level player.
A few things 1. It's true that basketball is more than just scoring efficiency.... but Jalen doesn't provide any of those other things, he's a one way offense only type player, so efficiency is the main thing that matters for a player like that. 2. If you can't create efficient offense for yourself, and "breaking down" defenses leads to inefficient garbage, it means you aren't actually a player who can do either thing. 3. His "March" was 8 hot shooting games and nothing more. The unsustainably hot shooting opened up things that weren't there before... but it was still 100% just 8 super hot shooting games.
Those numbers did include spot minutes and garbage time players, the stat finder wouldn't allow me to exclude them. But for reference - in TS% Shae was #16 and Luka 25ish. Green being around 180 is flat out terrible any whicha way you slice it.
