oh I just remember the commercials for Dan and Dave were everywhere. Yeah simone is a generatinal Olympian, but I remember there were generational stars in every sport from every country to follow. I used to know everyone who was swimming, diving, running, throwing... gymnasting. Biles and this team were competing with themesleves; they barely showed the other countries.
There have always been far too many sports to follow at the olympics, it's the way they are showing the sports now that is the problem. Back in the day, when we were watching cable, we were all fed the same sports; we were all watching the same thing. Collectivly we knew the same people. Streaming every sport (behind a paywall on mutiple channels and copyriting everything ) makes everyone less marketable. As big as SImone is now I think she should be even bigger with everything she has done. Simone is the MJ of Gymnastics but roll a Kerri Strug video and its over.
That is a problem too. And I’m saying this as someone who thanks to streaming is able to watch almost every match of my sport. In previous years it was hard sometimes to just get the results. I do think the vast amounts of sports though also dilutes the focus and storylines.
