He just needs to adapt his RP mentality to SP

Then have the real prospect SPs in AA and the AAAA guys who can rotate in and save some innings on the young starters arms and make a spot start can be in AAA

Brown should have known that 7 MLB SPs would get injured. What an idiot!

We'll never win the Prospect 100 Jamboree, now, will we?!?

How can we ever win theoretical games years in the future if we can't win actual actual games now?

btw: my love for Whitley was way about 5 years ago, around when he was drafted, same as Nolan's. If he could come up and replace someone in the current bullpen, I'm for it. I don't have $12M in my pockit to just ditch Montero, though.

    Hi!

New to the board but have been watching MLB over 30 years and rooting for Astros about 10 so gloryhunter I admit :). Mostly been drawn to post season and the best booths around the league b4 rooting for Astros. Mets booth is the best and there are few other good ones too. Love Blommer, chemistry with TK is great too, but as for (voice, pronouncing) speaking it is sometimes hard to listen TK voice 3 hours and also he talks always like he has dozen potatos in his mouth and should spit during sentences. Bit like coming from dentist and not having control....

Always adored Verlander and when 2017 my wet dream of Astros and him combined I was a orange for life. I know, little things :).

Made account here at start of season and was trying to vent about Astros online but it took moderation few weeks to confirm my account as active and meanwhile waiting forgot what got me riled up.It just was something new every f day. Should be like this in a gun store too. Go home and think about it. Also was somewhat pissed that couldt ramble online my frustration so kinda stayed silent as protest.

About this season, couple of opinions.

-I know Im in minority but nothing against Kikuchi deal. What I hear from Toronto he's the best teammate(speaks English also, hard to be funny ever (more than pitchers usually can be kinda isolated often from the others) and also love his stuff. Im not blaming catchers but Blue Jays other can hit (Jansen, gone now) and other eat(Kirk, can not believe how they won't force him to get in shape to do jumping jacks) .

-With Kikuchi's stuff you should do better as LHP. Team has to take resp.too. If they have years to shape his pitches and sequences and he is worse in the end without losing velocity tells what kinda amateur show they are running there. Bassitt and Gausmann prob. just tell staff to fk off. If Kikuchi can do better, he wins some games and keeps us in it on others. There is no chance Bloss or Loperfido were winning us games consist. this season. It's just a gamble and I hope as result I can root for the Astros in post season. If there would be miracle positive change right away and Kikuchi is like "oh...they knew nothing in Toronto....I love you and Houston" sign him right then for some years. Don't wait until the price is 30m/season.

Bloss was the main part from our side to the deal. But you saw him pitch just few days ago. It's all about stuff nowdays and he made last years France look like an ace compared. He was not high pick and I feel lucky we could use him this way. Wagner decent glove, slap hitter, not gonna hit for power, maybe utility guy for someone in the future. Loperfido I liked and loved....but guys not a phenom. He didt rake and league adjusted. It never got there. They didt have to. He just got himself out after the promising start. I know he didt play much but the crying "are we gonna pinch hit Loperfido.....aah oh well not possible..." is bit silly. Any somewhat experienced hitter passed around league is much better than what he was now. Defense was great! But when no one is hitting from the outfield....the D is not what helps us just now. Maybe Joey will be star, hope good things for him but he is not and never was a key to Astros 2024/2025 seasons. Chas prob. was a goner at the trade deadline but being terrible this season sheltered him from change of scenery. So....so many uncompetitive AB's that it's unreal. As GM would try the Wilson Ramos trick and send him to the eye doctor. This said his eyes (red shot) look more of the kind he's looking down bottles rather than gym equipment between games. Keeping it real Philly.

-What should be happening now is chances for every OF halfpromising prospects and trying to find decent D combined with that lacking ooomph in box we are lacking. Other teams get 10 hits and score 7, we hit 10 and score 1-3. Probably the reason why often the whole team thinks they have to ambush 1st pitch searching Altuvesc homer...when really just helping opp.pitcher to make longer start. If outfield is Chas, Jake and Dubon...it is just too much of dead hole for OFF.

-Umpiring this season. Not just horrible, anti Astros horrible. There are umpires in this league not even waiting chances to fk Astros. Making st up. If I have to watch the grinning of J.Valentine one more time Im breaking something. Mandfred telling publicly "oh I didt punish them enough" and everybody praising Red Sox post season heros 2018 is mandate enough to say "do whatever you can to stop them Astros". And 2018 Red Sox whole org. is like "the videoguy did it by himself...nobody knew...not even players....other than what was coming from mound." So frustrating. Game needs narratives but sacrifice one team for the good v evil just makes me sad. Especially when have followed Altuves career from the start. Yeah, he is doofus often on the basepaths but moments he brings and the personality. Him at Texas last season and ALCS gets me giggly on a bad day

All above just thoughts everybody has thought/spoke/misspoke and agreed or disagreed so kinda drivel but the last thing I wanted to say is about Tucker. I know they cant say "omg it's fking broken...." when possibly this could be a revelation after injury happens because fanbase would scream for a bat for rest of the season and getting rid of Abreu Crane wont pay for new legit one. But I have some paranoia in me hearing former team president say about arb.battles that rare or freak injuries never lowers the $ but sucking does. And that they always pat player in the back "what a hero you are!!" when he is playing injured or semi healthy but really they are laughing how much less the contract will be because of the lowered stats. IL/Do well. I know Im way way out there....but never seeing Tucker actually sprint anywhere and himself seeing Bregman lose about 50-100m free agency money with those two months to start this season. Is it impossible to think that Tucker is already making a case for 2025 free agency and that "he would have hit zillion homers if healthy according to start he had...." pitch. Ring on his finger, nothing to prove, window possibly closing here..
Time the comeback with pitchers coming back, winning few games on momentum and whadam Astros could't win division without him. Love the player, just paranoia and also Im not sure how much could I blame him even if right.

Sorry for the long rant. Hope they turn it around tonight.

Montero is getting paid either way, no sense making it worse by continuing to actually pitch him. inwas just teasing about you loving Whitley earlier- it was very understated and comes across more of a “why not” kind of thing.

Every other team has a 26 man ML roster. Paying Montero to sit the bench every day leaves us playing with 25. That is a pretty severe handicap for a sunk cost.

I believe the Astros were aggressive in trying to upgrade the team. But I ultimately think they ran into two issues: 1) demand was greater than supply; 2) there just weren't very many significant arms & bats available and/or the asking price was too steep.

If you step back and look at the deadline as a whole - man, it sure seemed like the most-traded commodity was relief pitching. I count four significant starting pitchers (Flaherty, Kikuchi, Fedde, Eflin) and two, maybe three bats (Arozarena & Parades, for sure; some, I guess, would include Chisolm). Otherwise, it was an endless parade of bullpen arms and BOR starting pitchers.

Think about all the players we heard about possibly being available in the weeks/days leading up to the deadline: Vlad, Skubal, Robert, Gausman, Snell, Yandy, Crochette, Rooker, Tyler Anderson, Mason Miller... none of those players were dealt.

So I'm glad the Astros struck for a SP - they HAD to get one. In terms of what's next, if they can stay in the race in August while JV, Garcia and Tucker get back healthy - with the addition of Kikuchi - I think they'll be in good shape, and, frankly, have a better team than last year.

You should have seen him in HS, 2 years in the minors?

Then things just went inexplicably weird for him.

I personally think Astros Management think we can be can beat anyone when healthy and the goal is just keep us in the ball game until everyone gets back. We are in the playoff picture even with Tucker, Verlander, and Garcia not playing. That's 2 MVP level players and a WS winning pitcher.

I agree. That's pretty obviously their thinking. And they might be right if they all get hot at the same time. Otherwise this roster probably isn't going to be good enough. We'll see...

When 2 of those pitchers are coming off of TJ surgery and anothers arm is hurting (Urquidy) then yes this could've been forecasted. In fact, Many others in addition to myself, many others wanted Lorenzen to be signed as a FA this offseason.

It's hard to teach grit and determination especially to a 18 year old millionaire who probably has extreme ADHD, hence the adderall.
