https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5669408/2024/07/30/caleb-ferguson-astros-yankees-trade/ This is a minor trade that should help Houston in the short term, though there are more concerns with Ferguson’s stuff this season than you’d typically want from a rental reliever. The Yankees clearly did not have big plans for Ferguson the rest of the way, which makes sense when you consider how poorly he pitched for them this season — 5.13 ERA, walks up, homers up, strand rate way down. Ferguson, who was solid for the Dodgers for a couple of seasons before being traded to the Yankees this spring for two minor leaguers, is down two ticks on his fastball this season. That makes his strikeout rate — 26.5 percent, in line with his career average — a little surprising. Still, the Astros could use a non-closer lefty, and Ferguson fits that need. He’s great against left-handed hitters (.639 OPS, compared to .823 for righties), throws four pitches and has some postseason experience in his back pocket. Houston is unlikely to regret tossing the Yankees a minor leaguer and a little spending money for a few months with Ferguson.
Brown loves guys who strike people out, regardless of the overall success Also loves hitters who K a lot as long as they can hit the long ball
MLB Radio reported it as Cole being scratched with Elbow Inflamation Whether that is the same thing as a sore neck or not, i'm not sure
Wouldn't it been better if they announced the news after the deadline? Hopefully Tigers asks for the moon for Flaherty now.
We're already let down, at this point just don't make it worse. If someone ripped the phone away from Dana today I wouldn't even be mad at it.
Paul Blackburn is the big starting pitcher addition for the Mets. He will give you 5 innings a start at a 4.80 era .... my guess is it goes up some in Queens.... but I also suspect the cost will not be as high as the Astros or Orioles paid. He is a guy every team should have to eat innings.
