How can someone be scratched an hour before lineups are even posted?

I dont think Dana is a creative thinker nor smart enough to be in charge of the entire org. He needs a director of baseball ops over him imo. That’s not to say he’s a bad hire or won’t be very successful here. His draft and development strengths look to be really really good. I just think he’s a huge step back from Luhnow.

I think it is hard to tell but it is possible you are correct.

He has attempted three and four team deals, and he has reached out to just about everyone available for trade.

The Astros, when they first hired Brown, flirted with having someone over Brown that would handle the duties that Brown did not, and make sure the overall system was in a good spot. It did not end up happening. Someone similar to a Mark Shapiro who only steps in from time to time.

That guy's tweet was before 2pm, the earliest posting of the lineup that I can find isn't until after 3pm.

Let's wait until the trade deadline before passing judgement.

Yep. That would be absolutely awesome. Carrol Dawson kind of played a role like that with the Rockets once upon a time, right? Again- I'm not anti Brown at all. I think he's probably a top 10 (or will become one) GM in the game and if he can draft and develop with where the Astros had for a starting point and becoming a big(ish) market team he will be perfectly fine for us. But we aren't going to maximize.
I think Sterns would have been a perfect type role for that- especially if he was burned out. I know he went to NYM so maybe that was overstated. Theo Epstein comes to mind as another guy that sort of ended up in that role as he seemed to get further and further away from it all.
Hell, it probably wouldn't work- just my sense of things from watching the last 2 trade deadlines and the offseason play out.

He did fine at executing filled needs at the last deadline. Better than Luhnow did at his first deadline.

he’s probably done more war room deadlines than Luhnow got to do with the Cardinals. Doesn’t make him “better” but doesn’t disqualify him either.

just stop hyper focusing on his public media statements… he’d certainly be better off saying nothing, but way too many fans are reading way too much into simply those instances.

Completely fair. He could still pull off a wonderful and meaningful trade deadline. That's not the way it's trending and not how it seams 24:44 away from the end.

That interview was brutal on Sunday juxtaposed with our biggest target getting traded to a team regarded as a seller 10 minutes later. He shouldn't have done that interview and he shouldn't run his mouth the way he does in the media- you are right. I have a problem that I typically default to the belief people are telling the truth unless their reason or agenda to lie is pretty obvious. There's no reason for him not to be truthful if he speaks, but whatever. I'm going to take a xanax and try not to slit my wrists as we are getting chewed up and spit out tonight.

If you really think the Paredes deal didn’t happen because he was doing a scheduled in game interview… you may need two Xanax’s.

Honestly, Brown has had a lot of constraints on him that the prior two GM's did not have. He inherited the worst farm system of the prior two, and he also did not have the advantage of either bottoming out or having a team full of guys under team control. Couple that with Crane using his personal situation with Verlander to get him back, and Crane basically telling Brown he can have Hader or he can have no one.

So what trade and free agent moves has Brown had control over? He fought for and got the money for Caratini. He went out and signed 3-4 relievers to complete and Scott came out of that group. He had control over which players the Astros would deal for Verlander (protecting Melton and Baez) and he has been responsible for the draft and international signings. He also sold Crane on the manager after Counsell said it was Chicago or bust.

I think Brown has overall done well so far but it is really too early to tell.

I’m starting to worry. First your daughter in a snuff film and then suicidal thoughts. How about a bottle of Tequila instead? I like your contributions too much to lose you. Call the suicide help line immediately.

Agreed. I think he’s done well and if we further attribute Blanco’s SP role to him, nobody should be complaining about his track record thus far. Results have been good on new acquisitions.

People getting upset merely over media comments is silly… especially since Luhnow was downright awful with the media at this phase of his GM tenure.

I Iike Brown a lot and think he's the right man for the joob, but when it comes to having the will to trading prospects he's lacking. But I believe we should wait until the deadline before passing judgement
