except in the playoffs. Then they have only one shitty fake ass title that came after a 60 game Covid Season to show for all their dominance. It's almost impossible for me to overstate how happy this fact makes me.
That's all well and good but that's his market value. The Giants won an auction with a contract nobody else wanted, and so far it has gone nearly as shitty as could be imagined worst case scenario. That's not the kind of thing that makes a guy worth more just because you wish that were the case. Come on Giants, get your heads out of your asses and move him along the line.
We will have to wait and see. I understand what you are saying, but the commitment to Snell is now less than it was when the Giants signed him, and teams are in the heat of the pennant chase with clear needs. His FIP for the season is only 3.30 and has been the best pitcher in baseball in July - lefties are hitting .129 against him.
for playoff purposes, I’d want another bullpen arm. Even all-star starters aren’t likely pitching into the 6th unless they’re dominating.
But at this point adding a SP is the best way to help get this team to the playoffs. Adding a bat is the best way to help it win in the playoffs Bullpen should be a distant 3rd IMHO
they’re all important. They’re all needs. They’re all going to help in all phases. They’ve got their targets. It’s not like they’re going to offer the same pieces for each and have to choose only one.
That is true to an extent. Aa long as they get one of the top handful, closing type relievers. But even then he will be no higher than 4th in the bullpen pecking order. And Scott has been good as the #4 And there are plenty of arms who have impressed and can slip into the #5-8 spots. Whitley has closer stuff. Murfee has done it before. King and Ort have impressed. How much of an improvement and impact will another reliever be?
That's the reason I want him. But it's a 31M risk that something goes haywire and you are stuck with that contract. I'm being a little bit flippant when I say practically free- but it should be a 45 grade prospect and a lotto ticket, with the Giants taking back some money (but not a ton) in the process as well.
Can never have too many arms…. Even moreso, can never have too many possibly battle-tested arms. I hate that this still needs to be re-iterated. We know who will be getting the bulk of all bullpen innings in a possible playoff game… regardless of run differential. They need more.
How many more you want? We've got 3 dominant guys, a guy that's been as good as any of them in Scott, and likely some addition also of Arrigehtti, Garcia and McCullers (presuming we get another starter which I can imagine we don't). That's way more than enough power arms and swing and miss guys for the playoffs. Like- the odds that isn't enough are very very small. The odds that you sit around with your dick in your hand b/c you are woefully inadequate at 1B and LF, and your SS and CF are slider chasing average Jags at the plate against good pitchers set up to be almost a metaphysical certainty at this point in time.
