    That's perfectly fine, but apparently he's not hitting when it matters.

    19 RBIs the first 2 months
    18 RBIs since June 1 (essentially 2 months)

    Worse yet, he's got 11 of the 18 RBIs off HRs since June 1. That leaves only 7 RBIs in all other ABs. Ouch.

    Like I said, he'll fit in perfectly with that wretched lineup that desperately depends on the long ball for their scoring.

    The issue isn't 1 position. It's the fact that this team is short on impact bats.

    This team has historically had a very deep lineup of very good hitters who relentlessly wore a pitching staff down. That's simply not the case in 2024.

    # players w/ OPS+ of 110 or higher (9 highest PA)
    2017 = 7
    2018 = 3
    2019= 7
    2020= 4
    2021= 7
    2022= 5
    2023= 5
    2024= 3

    # players w/ OPS+ 125 or bigher (9 highest PA)
    2017=6
    2018=2
    2019=7
    2020=2
    2021=5
    2022=5
    2023=4
    2024=3

    Noticing a pattern about World Series seasons vs those that fell short?

    This team needs 2 impact bats. It's not about specific positions as much as where established vs not established players are currently playing.

    Diaz, Altuve, Pena, Bregman, Alvarez, and Tucker are starters in indelible ink. That means that 1b, LF, CF, and DH are the only possible spots for that bat to play.

    Yordan is better at DH than LF and CF is a defense first position with few big bat options.

    That leaves 1b and LF as the 2 best spots to look.

    I’m not worried about Seattle. The Rangers will surpass them. If we can sign a bat and SP I think we glide to the division championship. If we don’t it will be down to who is injured less.

    So far, the watch party is watching other teams making deals.

    The top of the Astros lineup has been doing all the heavy lifting

    Since June 1st, Altuve, Bregman, Yordan, and Yainer are over 800 OPS.

    everyone else is 700 or less.

    Yeah, they have to make a move or two, and I'm absolutely certain that they will. I'd almost guarantee it. This team isn't good enough to win it all, but they're good enough to have a chance with some upgrades. I'm not a huge Jim Crane guy, but I do appreciate that he will go for it when necessary. It's necessary. I expect 2 moves at a minimum.

    If we don’t sign a 1b then we should immediately move Caratini to start at 1b. 70% of the time. He is way better against both RH and LH than Singleton. Singleton should only start against RH and only occasionally. We usually have 3 catchers in the post-season and Salazar comported himself pretty well when he was called up. On second thought just send Singleton down and make Caratini your starting 1 baseman and let Dubon, Loperfido, or Diaz play 1b when he is catching.

    Flaherty
    Torkelson (I don't think we have what it takes to get Paredes, too many teams in on him with way stronger systems)

    Dana brown on 790 with Robert Ford said that they are discussions with some teams who are “contending” and said that those teams may have a surplus in an area the Astros could use and the Astros may have a surplus in an area that the other team could use. May have been referring to the Orioles as @Nook alluded to earlier regarding Mountcastle, etc.

    He is certainly having a better year, but Caratini has a career .685 OPS and Jon is at .669 this year. Caratini would be a well below average 1B

    We need to go get someone

    None of them that you’d want hitting 5th or 6th in the batting order in the playoffs. That should be the goal.

    That doesn’t sound promising on Dana and his “big game hunting” that’s ****ing around at the margins with something like Chas for Mountcastle or something like that. Which- fine- but then why weren’t we in on the coupe Ofers that already got moved?
    I’m going to remain optimistic that we address at least 2 needs while just worrying endlessly that we won’t.

    Thoughts on Finnegan's teammate Dylan Floro? No idea who costs more in a trade. If Floro costs less, I'll go with same list but with Floro instead.

    Floro would be way cheaper prospect wise, he is a rental and Finnegan has another year of control in arb

    Caratini is an excellent backup catcher.
