Agree. But I have come to think that, in terms of fellow politicians, he was (and is) just insulting / praising whomever and whenever he thinks it confers him with additional political power. Trump on the outs, on his way to getting defeated by Biden? Insult him. Trump still the standard bearer, with millions of voters? Praise him, suck up to him. Whatever it takes. That might be the most accurate read of his "change" on Trump.
