I think his issues were way deeper than wanting more money. 1x1=2

There have already been three Dr. Doom movies and one Silver Surfer movie. Also they already covered the microverse and the civil war, both of which were big F4 arcs. If they want to introduce F4, they should do mole man or go all in with their Fox aquisitions and do a Shiar and F4 at the same time and have the X-Men v. the Avengers and F4 (and throw in Spider-Man, because why not?).

Yes, and they were all so blatantly worthlessly shitty that they're doing it again in the hopes 4th time is the charm.

Dr Doom is the best villain in Marvel lore

Doom's "powers" are that he is super smart and learned magic. He is essentially the evil combination of Iron Man or Mr. Fantastic (without the stretching) and Dr. Strange. He is essentially among the smartest people (and thus able to construct Iron Man level armor and Ultron level robots) and among the most skilled at magic (roughly Baron Mordo level?).

Marvel Studios Officially In Talks With The Russo Brothers To Helm AVENGERS 5 & AVENGERS: SECRET WARS
    [IMG]
Shocking development out of Marvel Studios today as it's being reported that the Russo Brothers are in early talks to helm the upcoming fifth and sixth Avengers films, which will start filming next year!

Just when they thought they were out, they're being pulled back in!

Breaking news from Marvel Studios this afternoon as The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Joe and Anthony Russo, a.k.a. the Russo Brothers, are in early talks to helm the still-untitled Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars.

While a contract is likely still being drawn up, if the studio and the Russos come to terms, this will mark the end of a lengthy director search that saw the likes of Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine) and Sam Raimi (Spider-Man trilogy; Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) all in various stages of contention for arguably the hottest directing gig in Hollywood.

After a strong reception to Shang-Chi, Destin Daniel Cretton was originally hired to direct Avengers 5 (then titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty) but exited the project a month prior to star Jonathan Majors' assault conviction. With early buzz trending in a positive direction for his upcoming MCU debut, Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy was recently offered the job as well, but seems to have passed based on this latest development.

Avengers 5 is now expected to receive a new title and will shift its focus to a different villain. Filming on the fifth chapter is reportedly set to begin in March 2025, and is slated to run through the end of Summer 2025. Also, while unconfirmed, it appears as though Avengers: Secret Wars will now commence filming immediately after the first half wraps production.

It's also being reported by Jeff Sneider, during his Hot Mic podcast, that Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely are being courted to write the screenplay for both films.

AVENGERS: SECRET WARS May Enlist A Familiar Writer Or Writers Ahead Of Possible Comic-Con Announcement

The Russos have a long history with Marvel Studios and played a vital role in establishing the Marvel Cinematic Universe, previously directing four of the most widely acclaimed superhero films of all-time: Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. Joe Russo also directed the second episode of Agent Carter. Their four films have grossed over $6.681 billion globally.

Since 2019, the Russos have directed Cherry and The Gray Man, which starred Marvel alums Tom Holland and Chris Evans, respectively, but neither film managed to reach the critical or commercial heights of their Marvel blockbusters, so a return to the MCU may help them get their groove back. However, before they can get started on those massive endeavors, next up on the docket is the Chris Pratt-starrer The Electric State, which is due out later this year.

For years now, the Russos have expressed interest in helming an adaptation of the classic Secret Wars storyline and it looks like they're about to get their wish and it should easily be their most challenging venture to date, especially with the film having been heavily been rumored to return many factions of the larger Marvel Universe, including the likes of Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, amongst others, and thrust them into the battle to end all battles.

With San Diego Comic-Con right around the corner, we should probably expected some sort of formal confirmation at the annual event, and a likely full title and slate reveal - and maybe even a few cast confirmations.

Avengers 5 will hit theaters on May 1, 2026; while Avengers: Secret Wars will debut on May 7, 2027!

They were good but I always thought Marvel could do BETTER than the Russo's (who were great for Winter Soldier). It would be interesting to see them work on something more grounded like the new Captain America. BUT - safe choice, cant argue with that.

They doing the OLD Secret Wars? The NEW Secret Wars? Or the battle universe thing?

Disagree, Russos made the top MCU movies, hands-down. At least, my favorites. And yes, their stand-alone stuff (Citadel) is flat AF.

Probably a mix of both OG SW and new SW, since the OGs are the Russo's dream project.

They need the merging of universes to tie all of the Marvel properties together and soft-reboot the whole thing, but the Beyonder is such a cool character, and since Kang is getting back-burnered, I can see Doom stealing the Beyonder's power then making or taking over Battleworld, which is an amalgamation of all of the different universes.

I got no beef with this take! My dream creative teams are PURE fantasy (DeMayo/Cameron XMen franchise).

It'll be tough. Whedon's Avengers sequel wasn't as good because it was mostly the same thing. Instead of moar CG aliens, it was moar CG robots.

It'd be nice for them to mix up their style and probably rethink how they'll use green screens and CG while keeping up the quality of their last Avengers.

People burned from the last 4 years will also want a different or more interesting take than what's being offered.

This is such a desperate move. They must have unloaded a dump truck of cash for RDJ to even consider this.

Marvel and Feige are high on their own supply with the multiverse thing. Hey that’s a fun idea… let’s go ahead and budget 400 million for that and start shooting before we have a script. Oh wait… the lead actor was found guilty of abuse… let’s just use the multiverse to bring back a character whose arc was the entire arc of 40 films…. But THIS TIME… he’s the villain!!.. because multiverse….

    Good lord…

This is my post in the other thread:

It is pathetic Marvel decided warming up well-cooked leftovers is the best/safest way to serve up a new and potentially great supervillian who is worthy of 2-3 movies as the lead character. It shows an utter lack of creativity that they couldn't find a fresh actor for the role. You know they must be paying RDJ a fortune!

On the other hand, it could signal Feige & co. realize they've tarnished this valuable IP so badly they must make a hard turn from the ditch and get back on to the road. Maybe there is hope sanity returns and we don't ever see Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, Echo, Kate Bishop and G'iah ever again (and Ironheart never gets released) and from 2026 on, they make entertainment the #1 priority.

But really, the only thing that matters is execution. I could see it going either way.

Jeez I remember when I used to be passionate about Marvel movies. I had like 23 posts on page one of this thread.

now I’m finding out that Robert Downey Jr. is somehow coming back as a villain. Right.

The **** has happened to the world in the last 5 years. I feel like I’m living in a multiverse.

If it's just a voice over in a mask, they should've picked a guy with a smooth deep voice like James Earl Jones...

    Wow. This is amazing.

The vitriol in this thread at RDJ playing this Doom…. I don’t have a problem with it.
