He was not "really good". He wasn't AS horrific as he usually is because he had an insanely lucky shooting stretch. As soon as his shooting returned to normal he became one of the worst players in basketball, which is usually where he is. We got super super lucky last season that he was slightly less awful as expected
Nah. I'm pretty sure Udoka knows if a player is one of the worst in the NBA. You lose all semblance of credibility when you make dumb statements like these. You know how much Knicks valued Bridges? Brooks was only slightly worse than Bridges at everything. Bridges: 19/4/5 37% 3pt 56 TS% Brooks: 13/3/2 36% 3pt 55% TS% There is no metric that says Brooks is one of the worst players in basketball or as horrible as you are saying at all. You always makes these wild unsubstantiated takes about everything.
Bruh I'm sure Udoka knows more about bball than you. You saying "I wish" is kinda weird tbh. Do you even work in the NBA?
Bridges: 1.2 VORP, -0.4 BPM, 0.070 ws/48, 173rd in EPM (he had an awful season) Brooks: -0.9 VORP, -3.6 BPM, 0.058 ws/48, 191st in EPM By VORP, brooks ranked 561st out of 572 players, Scoot ranking last and jordan poole 3rd to last By BPM, brooks ranked 178th out of 185 qualified players, scoot again ranked last His ws/48 isn't that bad, 160th out of 185, scoot of course last Do you think all the metrics are just wrong? And if so, why?
All the metrics or just selected advanced metrics? If you look at the actual efficiency Brooks has had like what I showed you he was far from bad. On the LEBRON data base Dillon Brooks is 310 out of 572 players which def isn't among the worst.
As usual, on CF the idiotic narratives completely supplant reality. Brooks did the job he's supposed to do. The only valid complaint should be him needing to dial down the villain persona and technicals a bit, his actual basketball performance is fine.
Pro Dillon Brooks: True Shooting Percentage 3 pt percentage LEBRON Database Ime Udoka Team Canada Anti Dillon Brooks: VORP BPM astrosrule I think its pretty clear which side is right and which is wrong.
Is 310th good? That would make him an 11th man, not a rotation player. Every metric i have seen shows he’s terrible. Perhaps there are others, some behind paywalls.
His TS is 5% below league average and his 3pt shooting is also below average. If you consider 310th a win i guess you have that one though
"VORP calculates a box score estimate of the points per 100 team possessions that a player scores over a replacement player (a non existent player, again an estimate) translated to the average team over a full NBA season" - that's not a real statistic, good for confirmation biases though. "BPM takes box score stats from an individual and team level and tries to estimate player performance relative to the NBA average" again, an estimate, not a statistic. "WS/48 is win shares per 48 minutes and invented by Justin Kubatko who explains: “A win share is worth one-third of a team win. If a team wins 60 games, there are 180 ‘Win Shares’ to distribute among the players.” - again, this is not a statistic, only 3 win-shares per game? Are there only 3 players per team? - this is not a statistic. Daryl Morey ****ing ruined basketball fandom, all these made up "metrics" are estimates, not concrete ACTUAL statistics.
You said he is one of the worst players in the league so below average is now worst? Or you admit you are just overreacting?
There are contextual reasons for his decline that dont show him in stats including not having a proper backup and him sustaining an abdominal injury which affected his performance. If you actually watched the games during the first half of the season before Tari went down and before his injury Brooks was excellent. Playing thru injury and extended minutes tanked his efficiency and advanced stats but in reality thats a benefit showing his mental toughness and grit to come thru when the team needs him the most. He could have sat down till he felt better but he grinded it cuz we had no one better at the SF spot. Now you are using that tenacious quality of his against him and because you dont know how to use these advanced metrics and just blindly look them up. Regardless he isnt among the worst players in the league like you claim. If he was terrible why would he be on Team Canada and why would Udoka play him a lot? What type of qualification do you have that supercede these guys who coach for a living? You think Udoka doesnt know how to look up VORP or does he consider more factors than just VORP before he calls Brooks the worst player in the league?
He didnt ruin basketball but he spawned a ton fo wannabes who just look up stats without understanding it and just say stuff that flies in the face of reality.
The problem is that these aren't even stats. They're estimates derived from stats, often with very little logic. Can they potentially show ways to differentiate between players? Sure, but they are not the same as comparing the actual statistics/performance/results of a game/player. The people who treat those as the be all and end all only ever seem to use the ones that match their confirmation bias.
