just built a "budget" PC using micro center and Amazon Prime day about $800 intel i7-12700K I know Intel going through some problems right now, but by the time i want to upgrade hopefully the 13th and 14th gen processors will be okay. my motherboard can only go up to 14th gen z790-V AX Motherborad 48GB DDR5 Ram 1TB Crucial M.2 AMD RX 6750 XT graphics card 750w PSU Thermalright Peerless Assasin 120 CPU cooler Montech Case came with 3 fans dont laugh at me.
AMD 5800x + Scythe Fuma 2 Some basic ASUS motherboard 2x 1TB m.2 2x 1.5TB SSD 32GB DDR4 RAM Sapphire 7900XT Seasonic Gold 850W PSU beQuiet 500DX My previous rig was an i7-4790k. GPU started as a 7970 3Ghz, it died around 2019 and I bought my friend's 770 after he upgraded. Eventually got a 3060 Ti FE on launch. Then built this rig in 2021 and upgraded the GPU last year. This rig will probably get me another 6 years. As enticing as the Microcenter bundles are, I'm not bottlenecked anywhere to need to upgrade.
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6500 CPU @ 3.20GHz NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB And yeah, I need to ugprade badly. I just don't keep up with PC news, so I have no idea what is a good deal or not. If anyone knows of a good value pre-built rig, let a brother know.
14700K 32 GB DDR5 RTX 4080 Super 2 GB M2 SSD The irony is I use a M2 Mac mini instead half the time for casual browsing on the desktop at home. Windows 11 is annoying with all the ads and nags to subscribe to Microsoft services. I end up using my phone most off all to browse here.
Costco pre-builts are pretty good. They're a fair value for a current gen CPU and usually a 4060 GPU. They're a great value if you can find them on sale/clearance around $700.
Every time I go to costco I skim the PC section hoping to find an open box/display model on sale. No luck yet
Device name DESKTOP-XXXXXXX Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700 CPU @ 2.90GHz 2.90 GHz Installed RAM 32.0 GB (31.7 GB usable) System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Yeah, I have a 'gaming' laptop for work that got at Costco two years ago. MSI Raider GE76 12UE Processor 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700H 2.70 GHz Installed RAM 64.0 GB (63.7 GB usable) NVidia GeForce RTX 3060 It's good enough for the few games I play, none of which are hardware hogs. It does seem to bog down when I have tons of chrome tabs and Microsoft Office apps open, but that may just be BitLocker ****ing with everything. Honestly, I wish I had gotten a MacBook Pro for work for battery life and weight. I'm up for refresh in a year and will get a MacBook and get to keep this 'old' one.
I've got one of those Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700K CPUs. Apparently, Intel and Microsoft have told me to "F**K OFF!" as Windows 11 will not be supporting this CPU (no idea why?). I'm sure I'm not alone. I am, however, pissed...because Windows 10 support is ending soon...meaning I have to upgrade my machine when I really don't want to or lose on security updates. At a minimum, it appears I have to swap out my motherboard/CPU. Or, just buy a new machine entirely.
Not to derail the thread, but I have resisted upgrading to W11. Is there any legit reason to upgrade to W11 before next year? Am I missing anything?
I was running an i7-6700k until last year when I built a new PC. I was going to keep using Windows 10 until support/updates ran out, but I decided to upgrade also because my video card for gaming was "starting" to show its age after 8 or so years, too. So I just decided to build a new one.
