So you are just going to ignore the fact that baseball is a team sport? 9/10 beats the **** out of 4/10 if you have good players around it, and where does it say 9/10 means 9 singles? Sometimes you sound as full of **** as a Christmas turkey.
Yep, after what Caserio did last off season I'm never saying never just because a GM waits to make moves
This was in addition to what was said (as an interesting observational fact) that if those hits were by a team in an inning (not just one player) that it would lead to more runs.
When people make these types of arguments you really have to take it down to a larger sample size. There's not many scenarios where 4 for 10 will be better than even 6 for 10. That's .200 points difference which is astronomical in baseball. The more realistic comparison would be 35 out of 100 vs 38 out of 100 which is still a .030 difference. Big in baseball. But then you could get things close enough to where slugging and other factors are consequential.
Cant wait until the 30th when Dana doesn't do anything leading up to the day and then complains that the clock ran out before a deal could be made.
Of course a good batting average is still a good thing. It just completely discounts the other ways people get on base. It's incomplete and lacking. Just looking at getting on base: Player A hits .246 with a 10.4% BB rate. Player B hits .281 with a 4% BB rate. Player A= Carlos Santana has been on base 122 times in 367 PAs. Player B= Yainer Diaz has been on base 114 times in 372 PAs Player B= Yainer Diaz who has been on base 114 times in 372 PAs.
Yeah, but they made a move for Aereola. That's a plus move. Orioles traded for Eflin. Both guys had for peanuts.
The other scenario I'm stating goes beyond just stats. It's mentality of the player and hyping up your team. A strike throwing closer is not going to be as worried about a guy that walks a lot but also strikes out with a low BA compared to the guy that can place the ball where he wants. So the pitcher may have to adjust their approach and get themselves in trouble in doing so. Also, teammates may be more energized with a guy they feel can put the ball in play compared to a guy that swings and misses in the zone.
