helped his long term outlook as a player... not in terms of his scoring averages for his third year. Law of Thermodynamics. Finite energy. Being asked to do more like actually care about defense drains energy, will effect scoring. A new offensive system will get you out your comfort zone. A new primary ball handler when Green is used to that will effect his scoring. Maybe for a off ball role player, they will see immediate benefits in scoring but for a player like Green who has always been on ball his entire basketball career since HS has to adjust more. People were saying Jalen has to make the biggest adjustment before the season started for a reason, Allowing him to go into season three with zero expectations besides being a better scorer with Silas and letting him "cook" would help his third year scoring numbers but not his overall outlook as a player and would lead to 20 something wins.
What? he had kpj as the main ball handler before he had fvv. He went from a horrific pg to a solid pg, i don't see how that makes him worse. I get he's your guy though, to some degree i admire the way you are towards jalen, dd is towards kpj, atw towards sengun. It's cool that all these guys have their superfans.
They played a more my turn your turn system that didn't have much Sengun post up or DHO actions type plays. Infact Jalen has a higher volume of pnr primary ball handling possessions per game than KPJ last season and had a higher ppp than KPJ also on those possessions. The including of Sengun, the addition of a actual accomplished floor general type guard meant Green has a lesser on ball role but more importantly was not sure of his role on the team because now Sengun is the number one option instead of him. And then there is the part where he was asked to try on defense. Having a no nonsense coach also meant he knew a more creative attempt with the ball and causing turnovers from it will lead to benching which means he second guessed doing more creative things. In March that was erased basically and he had no fear pulling advanced dribble moves and having a turnover because he knew he was staying in. The way Green plays, he can't fear making certain moves out of a fear of having a turnover. That makes him second-guess and hesitate. That's what usually makes Green mess up on a possession rather than ****ing up trying to do something advanced.
Well you can get turnovers for different reasons. His first couple of years could have been because he had poorer ball security with his dribble and in his third season improved on that but was more confused on what exactly his role was in offense and made.more errors that say rather than just getting stripped.
Are you serious? Just from the very same post: There's nothing wrong with having subjective opinions but there's something wrong with: - Being subjective and thinking you're 100% objective - Thinking you're objective while others are just being subjective We're going into this season and giving Green a chance to prove himself. Trust me, Stone and Udoka are not going to risk their jobs on something that has a 5% chance of happening.
This is more like Tier 3, emotional projections. Someone is neutral/positive about two years and ecstatic about 40% of season 3 then becomes whiny about the 50 games he took to adjust to a serious coach and winning environment for the first time? Cry me a river. You can search my post history for the dozens of times I said last summer "give Green 30 games to adjust" and I was annoyed too between games 30 and 50 but I'm not going to be mad at him now just because my projection was off by 20 games in someone's entire career.
Lol no there's a better case scenario dude, why not sign him to an Aaron Holiday type contract that would be even better!
I don't know if I buy the theory of adjustment, simply because if you look at his shooting splits, Jalen had a really good November in both counting stats and efficiency. He averaged about 20 points a game with 58% TS for that stretch. If he was having so much trouble with exerting energy on defense, how did he have such a decent start to the year. His slump and peak is probably more drastically than most players in the league. If you compare Booker's third year splits, you can see how different it look vs. Green's. Even by eye test/watching highlights, Green's style of play on offence is much more volatile than someone like Bookers. If you pull up any random clip of Booker in 2017-2018 and compare it to Green's highlights from 2024, it's night and day which one is more replicable on a game to game basis. You rarely see Booker attempt crazy step back 3's, or trying to elevate over opposing centers, most of his drives are 3-4 dribbles, in control and absorbing contact to be in balance. He also had a steady diet of mid range shots from the same spots on the court that he hits with confidence. https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask?q=jalen+green+ts+2023-2024+by+month https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask?q=devin+booker+ts+2017-2018+by+month
I'll believe it when I see it bro. You've dismissed a player of the month calibre stretch, why would we expect you to not find something to dislike if he played well the first month of next season? Same methodology will deliver something to be critical about. Btw, no one in the NBA is going to consistently average what Jalen did in March. Not even the MVP. Your standards for Green have always been pretty unrealistic.
He averaged 27.7, 6.3, 3.9 in march. Jokic was 26.4, 12.4, 9. Hell embiid was almost 35, 11, 5.6 for the season
That goes for a lot of people and their weird benchmarks that nobody ever in history can meet. I forget which person wanted Jalen to hit over 38% in 65 of his games or whatever it was - something Steph Curry couldn't come close to. For me, the only question is whether they set these ridiculous standards knowing full well that nobody could ever hit them (whilst hoping others don't realise) or if they're that clueless about basketball that they think these things are even possible in the first place? They compare him to lesser players (who he also has a better first 3 years than) and then expect him to be better than the greatest of all time, it's some weird ass cognitive dissonance to witness.
Steph Curry's worst ever season was 38% from 3... how are you so ignorant about the basics of basketball? Saying they want Jalen to hit 0.9% better from 3 for 85% of the season than the average for his position isn't something that "nobody ever in history" can do.
Many seem to want to have their cake and eat it too, regarding JG. In reality, it's either move him soon, or risk another hit on his speculative trade value... We should be locking in his value yesterday/ASAP.. Hopefully PHX has serious problems out of the gate...Booker's our man.
That's not what happened and was described about the "tier 4" people. Go back and read the post again.
Believe it or not, except for Landale early on last season, I haven't been critical of any of our other players. That is to say, our other players meet my standards just fine. So contrary to what you probably believe, I am not picking on JG. I just don't think he is a very good starting caliber basketball player. BTW, I haven't dismissed anyone, I just don't have much confidence that Jalen will get things together enough this coming year for things to work out for him with the Rockets.
You said I was giving subjective opinions that were proven wrong. I don't understand how any of those statements at this time is proven wrong. That's all I was getting at. Of course I have opinions on Green, until he shows me otherwise those are closer to the facts than you want to admit. Y'all harp on the 11 game winning streak over and over again. So fine I'll give you a 13% chance he becomes a star. 11/82 games.. The fact still remains that he was bad more than he was good last season.
I re-read it man, not sure what you think I didn't understand. They were neutral to positive last summer I.e. after Jalen's first two seasons. So let's say they were patient for 10 games. Then they get mad about the next 40 games. Then over the final 30 games Green renewed their faith in giving him one last chance.
No I didn't. I said that tier either spams us with subjective stuff OR debunked stuff. You've done both anyway, but just to correct your post. See you're outing yourself here. You don't even know what an objective fact is. The fact that a statement can't be proven wrong has nothing to do with whether it's a fact. Example: There are aliens in another star system. You can't prove it wrong. That doesn't make it a fact. Also, no one denies Jalen has had too many bad games. What I deny is that it means "he is what he is".
