Really? Because I feel there is zero controversial in what I said. Craig Biggio had a .993 career fielding percentage as a CF. Andruw Jones had a .992 Clearly Biggio was the better CF?
There's no one stat that means anything, but the ability to get base hits is a pretty good barometer of a hitter
I think we all can agree that MY fielding percentage (if given an opportunity) at MLB 3B would be damn near zero and that would be a solid indicator of how bad my glove and arm are Maybe @Buck Turgidson would fare a bit better My batting average would not be much higher seeing that I come from the close-your-eyes-and-swing-violently Joaquín Andújar school of hitting.
I'd sure be smart enough to wear a cup. Arm is solid though. Need someone to toss me the ball and then I'll throw it.
But getting on base is more important than getting on base with a hit. And there is more to value at the plate than either of those. (Edit. I read it wrong the first time)
Walks don't drive in runs, base hits do. But yes, of course, not making outs is the thing to strive for.
All I was pointing out is that an imperfect fielder can have a good fielding percentage. But I think the points both of us have made are accurate.
Heeeehehe...I remember the season I got @Rocketman95 and a couple of his Katy basketball buddies to play on a Rice U jackass softball team. My leg (sciattica) was a bit jacked up, so I couldn't do much, but the first practice.... Big Irish is 7'1"...I said "you're our 1B" We're about 100' apart, warming up the arms and such, and I think to myself "announce your presence with authority". 1st throw, no bunny hop or anything, backfoot planted and whammo, "BANG" glove noise. There were a couple of "oh sh!ts". The kids were impressed. I was impressed that I didn't throw out my shoulder.
Astros released C Luke Berryhill. Houston lost the Cionel Perez trade. P Drew Strotman was also released. He was a free agent pickup who threw high 90s. Ryan Gusto starts for Sugar Land tonight. He has a 1.54 era over his last 7 starts (40.2 innings). I haven’t dug into it but I can’t recall a SP throwing that well over 40+ innings in AAA anytime in the last 4-5 years.
Cam Fisher homered tonight. He has now homered in 3 of the 4 games he’s played in since returning from the Development list. Unfortunately he has also struck out in 5 of his 13 ab in that span. In AA, Jacob Melton, Zach Cole, and Jordan Brewer have all homered tonight.
Getting cautiously optimistic about Cole, seems like all he needs to do is make consistent contact (easier said than done) to be a 4-5 WAR player. I know Nook said some in the Astros org are high on him, maybe he ends up in left field next year.
