you and I agree. It's just that many people think the leadership overstepped their bounds, even if "they made the call based on the response of the voters." It is a serious, debatable question whether they were justified in doing that.

Does it suggest he plans to do more than explain why he withdrew from the campaign for reelection? by noreply@blogger.com (Ann Althouse) Does the ultra-solemn setting suggest he is going to resign? It feels strange, perhaps even wrong, to use the Oval Office to talk about the political campaign. Looking for clues, I'm reading this CNN article about the upcoming speech, "Biden to deliver Oval Office address on decision not to seek reelection as Harris and Trump hit the trail": President Joe Biden’s address to the nation Wednesday evening will serve not only to explain his shocking decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential race but will carry an element of poignancy as he begins the closing chapter of his presidency and half-century in public service.... His speech at 8 p.m. ET will be his first extensive remarks since his announcement Sunday that he was not running and will serve as the first time many Americans see him since he tested positive for Covid-19 last week..... Oval Office addresses have historically been serious moments for presidents to speak to the American people at times of national crisis or to make major policy announcements. It will be only the fourth time Biden has addressed the nation from the setting as president. And it’s the second time in just 10 days, following Biden’s remarks to the country earlier this month following the assassination attempt against Trump. He’s also used the setting to speak about Hamas’ attack on Israel last year and to laud the passage of a bipartisan budget agreement.... It seems the speech must go beyond campaign-related material. But maybe he needs to explain that he is competent to continue as President. Withdrawing from the campaign for reelection created an inference that he's also not capable of serving out the rest of his term, so maybe explaining withdrawing from the campaign inherently works to explain why he can still serve as President. But I don't like the campaign announcement as an Oval Office address, so I'm raising the question whether he's going to spring a big announcement tonight and resign as President. Do I want him to resign? Do you? I don't know how bad he is right now, and I don't know if Kamala Harris is ready to jump into the job at the same time she's got to hit the ground running as the candidate in a big time crunch. I don't know which way puts our country and the world in the most danger. And maybe you're also concerned with whether one party or the other has a better chance of winning in November if Kamala Harris ascends to the presidency right away. I'm not. I'm taking a position of cruel neutrality. Posted by Ann Althouse at 12:00 PM
Im not sure either. Donnie keeps speaking of these voters. Biden stepped down. Whether he was coerced or not is a different story. Its a moot point and should be left to the conspiracy theory thread that doesn't exist.
trump is mad so he sends his minions out with his idiotic talking points and then they look like morons, this is what happens when you bend the knee to the cult leader. Biden is old, did horrible at the debate and then had 2 weeks of looking bad, got covid and did some self reflecting and LISTENED to the leaders of the party and then HE made the decision to drop out. You know its trump talking points now because they make no sense and are conspiracy based........how long will the gop debase themselves for one man. trump is nervous, he knows he would beat Biden but not so sure about Harris so he is throwing a tantrum................................its just so unfair to the gop
Mayor Pete, who failed the nation with his bungling of the supply chain crisis, coupled with Kamala, who failed the nation as border czar could be the worst ticket in history. They both fail the test on being a competent executive who can get things done. Both would be well-suited for no-accountability school administration jobs -- like heading up the DEI department.
They did the right thing for their party and the nation. Smart and reflective leadership. Republican leaders might want to learn a thing or two about not sticking to a man no matter what. CNN Poll: The nation strongly approves of Biden's decision to end his campaign for re-election: 90% of Democrats 88% of Independents 85% of Republicans EDIT: And again, full credit for a courageous and selfless act from Biden. Whatever pressure he was facing, it was his and only his decision to make. He made the right decision.
You and others are missing the main point though which is - many in the media and politicians called out biden's mental capabilities for the last 4 years but were called conspiracy theorists even though it was clear something was wrong. now people want to act like this was all a recent development with biden since the debate. this certainly wasn't something the DNC didnt know even a year ago. but they wanted their candidate. Kamala was the chosen one in 2020 but couldn't make it past Tulsi Gabbard's right hook so she dropped out before he first primary in Iowa. then they attached her to biden. now a chance to finally get her in the presidency after forcing biden out conveniently after the primaries. if 2016 and 2020 didn't happen I'd be more likely to believe it. Because of the screw job the DNC did those years, I'm not gonna believe what they're saying now. Actions speak louder. Biden said he was staying in the race just after the debate. That's why people are saying he was forced out. It is obvious or else that would not have been tweeted from the official president account.
The new CNN poll says that 73% of Democrats want a different candidate other than Kamala. Strong candidate you've got there! https://www.breitbart.com/2024-elec...-someone-other-than-kamala-harris-as-nominee/
Nah, he just realized finally that his support was drying up because of his age, and did the right thing, as he always does. Great job Joe. DD
dumbasses don’t even read their own links…moron interprets this as “73% of all Democrats”…no surprise when you’re the type to visit breitbart The poll asked Democrats/Democrat-leaning independents who are registered to vote and prefer the Democrat Party to nominate a candidate other than Harris in 2024. “Is there a specific person you’d like to see the Democratic Party nominate for president, or do you just want to see someone besides Kamala Harris?” the poll asked. Respondents replied as such: Just someone besides Kamala Harris: 73 percent A specific person (NET) (specify): 27 percent Michelle Obama: 5 percent Gavin Newsom: 4 percent Pete Buttigieg: 3 percent Josh Shapiro: 3 percent Gretchen Whitmer: 3 percent Bernie Sanders: 3 percent Robert F. Kennedy Jr.: 2 percent J.B. Pritzker: 1 percent
You can't believe it happened that fast can you? Democrats were calling Biden out starting last year with the media covering for him up to this point. To tweet he was doing one thing, and then do the opposite days later is very....Trump like right? If trump did that we wouldn't hear the end of it. The hypocrisy in American politics is unreal
He also said he would drop out of the race if he’s convinced he cannot win. Biden is set to address the nation today at 7 PM CST about his decision. Tune in to hear more about his reasoning.
And that was apparent 9 months ago when polls showed trump beating biden soundly so I'm not buying that part either. we'll see what he says tonight
Not to him, not to many folks. There was essentially no pressure for him to drop out of the race until after his debate performance.
