    I agree with this completely

And yet he is still one of the 9 best position players on the roster.

That really points out how top heavy and shallow this roster is and why a bat is needed at the deadline.

Jackson Nezuh in his Asheville debut: 4.2 IP, 4 H (solo HR allowed), 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K

Narbe Cruz (3), Cam Fisher (9), Luis Baez (17), and Ryan Johnson (14) all hit solo homers for the Tourists... Johnson went deep twice.

    Anderson Brito's Fayetteville debut: 3.1 IP, 2 H, ER, 2 BB, 7 K

The one run came on a solo homer. Kinda tough to win when only two people in the lineup have a hit; Nehomar Ochoa had two of them.

Wilmy Sanchez struck out 8 in three innings, but he gave up the winning run in extras.

I’m wondering if Brice Matthews is talented enough to let Bregman sign elsewhere? Probably give Bregman a qualifying contract, and take the draft pick if he signs elsewhere.

Shay Whitcomb's 20th home run of the year is a grand slam.

Bring him up and put him in the bullpen.

I would rather take a shot like this, if I could only fill two of the three needs then give me a SP and a bat in trades.

I agree that SP and 1b/LF must be the priority.

A bullpen arm would be great, but there are several guys who have impressed me and I am hopeful for: Whitley, Ort, King, Murfee all come to mind.

Whitcomb is a solid candidate to replace Bergman at 3B next season, if Bergman walks … that is if Whitcomb is not traded by then.

Yep. His k rate is now <20%, his walk rate is >10%, and he’s still hitting for a lot of power; he looks like a really complete hitter.

Given his disastrous last few years...

...every pitch he throws is high leverage.

    Whitcomb

For the 2024 season, Whitcomb has played

    2B - 17g, .967 fielding%
    3B - 26g, .961fielding%
    SS - 29g, .972 fielding%
    LF - 7g, 1.000 fielding%
    RF - 1g, 1.000 fielding%
    DH - 10g

    Bregman has a career .964 fielding% at 3B.

FAIK Whitcomb's advance defensive metrics scream "oh, hell no" for 3B/SS.

That's who I hoped Hensley would be, the swiss army knife guy, but he just flamed out. I was very wrong about that kid.

Aledmys (sp?) was that guy. Dubon is now that guy, but having two is better than having one.

I have no information about Whitcomb's fielding ability.

    I know 2 things.

    1) What I heard Dana Bown say with my own ears

    2) that fielding percentage is as bad a way to determine a players ability with the glove as batting average is to determine how good a player is at the plate.
