As others have said in the prior thread and this thread, he's not an upgrade. It would be another frustrating Abreu situation. If the Astros claim him off waivers then they have to pay his contract. They are already paying lots of dead money to poor performing 1st basemen.

Can't for the life of me think of a good reason for Aledmys Diaz to be starting, there's no upside there and he's been terrible for a few years. It concerns me a little that they are even trying in this Dubon, Cabbage,Loperfido, any of them 100% should be starting ahead of him at 1B. Hell I would give Kessinger some run before him, call up Will Wagner.

The Astros are trying to find some production vs LHSP from the bottom of the lineup and need to give him enough PAs to see if he is still a MLB player. FWIW I hate it Need more production vs LHSP? Bring up Leon and send Loperfido, Cabbage, or Chas to Sugar Land. It's a better plan than reliving 2022 ( the 1b/LF debacle, not the W.S. win)
This was my same thinking with France, after he presumably clears waivers, why not see if you can fix him in AAA
I see a bunch of morons on Twitter blaming the pick up of Alemys Diaz on Dana Brown. Dana wasn't even around when he played with us. This was obviously a call by Crane, Bagwell, or Espada.
