I was going to say exactly the same thing. There is BB Instinct and BB IQ, not the same thing. IQ is premeditated. FVV and Alp are the tops. They can see things before everyone else. Instinct is simply in the flow. Tari has elite instinct. Amen also has amazing instict. I'm not so sure yet he's high IQ. He didn't impress me as a PG plus his aweful shooting % suggests he's not that high IQ. We'll see if his shooting % improves and then maybe we'll see more decisions from him in more places on the floor. Right now he finds the right spots in the flow of the offense, which seems more like instinct.
Of the Core 7 players I'd like to see finishing games Highest IQ: Reed, Amen, Alpi Most Impactful: Tari That leaves 3 vying for 1 spot Have to give it to Jabari for defense and shooting
Cam has very very bad BBIQ. He's just good so it doesn't look really bad. Same way Kobe had insanely terrible shot selection but was so good he could make a turnaround fade away with 2 defenders when he had a team mate open in the corner so it didn't come off as a terrible shot. It can still be fixed and Cam could get to a decent level but right now whenever he touches the ball, all he thinks is attack. I think as a team it's a bit like this: S tier: Sengun A tier: Reed, (Fvv) B tier: Amen C (average) tier: Jabari, Tari D tier: Jalen F tier: Cam Please never touch a basketball tier: Dillon Brooks
You you put Jalen below guys like Bari and Tari it's a bigotry of low expectations situation. You do know that right? What would it look like if Tari ran 10 possessions a game as a primary pnr ball handler like Green? Btw Green percentile ranking is well above league average in effectiveness on those plays.
Out of ALL the years Ive known "DD" on this board, this has got to be the most dumbest and insensitive post ever. IM SHOCKED! Basketball for one is taught! Players come into the league at different levels, so who's to say one player is smarter than another. For example, let's take Reed Sheppard. Both his dad and mom played basketball at high levels, so he has been taught properly his whole life versus Tari Eason, Jalen Green or Cam Whitmore. They probably didn't start focusing on basketball until they got in middle school or highschool, so their knowledge of the game is not as broad as Reed Sheppard but doesn't mean that they're any less adept at developing into a high IQ player. Kobe Bryant was a classic example of developing into a HIGH IQ PLAYER. When he first came into the league, while although very intelligent, you would think his basketball IQ was not advanced by his playing style. However, as he matured and developed he was respected as a very high IQ player. So for someone to list players in order of where he thinks a certain players IQ level is at this point based upon their play, I think its repulsive. And to add to it, I think Jalen Green's decision making has progressed since he first came into the league. When came into the league, he was just a chucker, shooter or whatever you want to call him. But this past yr, he cut down on turnovers and became a better playmaker, all while adjusting to a new scheme.
This is really silly Freudian bullshit. BBIQ does not need to be divided into different types of IQ and what the hell does shooting % have to do with IQ. This Forum is really struggling for content. Can’t wait for the pre-season.
I've argued with you enough about Jalen to know it's a waste of time sorry. Offensively I'd agree Tari is worse than Jalen but the defensive instincts from both guys at least gives them a bit of an edge. On offense I've talked about how Jalen isn't a "read and react" player and operates much more like a Westbrook than a Harden. He's been such a gifted offensive player all his life that usually he just has to power through the D to score and doesn't make adjustments mid-action. Yes I agree that if Jabari ran pick and roll it'd probably be much much worse but knowing your limitations and sticking to your strengths is a huge part of IQ as well (looking at you, Dillon Brooks). Not even trying to dribble gets Jabari good IQ points. I think playing within your capabilities is the biggest component of BBIQ. It could be argued that Steven Adams has the highest IQ on the whole team.
I feel like this flawed bbiq narrative is something Jalen green haters and sengunatics have been using to sht on green. Of course jalen is no where near sengun level bbiq, but being dead last or near the bottom is just wild. It's also quite bias for pgs seeing that the pgs Reed and amen get bumped to a higher rank yet one has yet to play a lick of regular nba mins and the other spent last season playing the cutter position. Being a pg shouldn't automatically equate to high bbiq. High bbiq is what u want in pgs but isn't always the case. Westbrook plays point guard and a lot of folks considered him a dumb@$$. Kpj roleplay as pg and he has low bbiq. The only player out of the core 7 who's bbiq has such a gap over the rest is sengun.
Much like the narrative that he's a bust compared to his peers despite significantly outperforming his entire draft class as a scorer - it has nothing to do with his actual play, everything to do with the people saying it and their motivations.
The people who put him last don't believe it. They are trying to get attention. "Attention whores" as they call it.
Playing within your limitations for a role player isn't high IQ persay. It's a "I don't want to lose my job" trait. And Jalen is not disobeying the coaching staff and doing things beyond what the coaches ask. They want Green to break down defenses. They want him to operate the pick and roll.
Most Athletic Tier 1 Jalen Green Cam Whitmore Amen Thompson Tari Eason Tier 2 Jabari Smith Dillon Brooks Aaron Holiday Tate Tier 3 Reed Sheppard (Stone: we have enough long athletic players to help Reed defensively) Jock Landale Jeff Green VanVleet Tier 4 Steven Adams Sengun (Stone should say: we have enough long athletic players to help Sengun defensively)
lol Professional basketball with systems and professional players playing within these systems are "a little bit" different than street basketball with no system...Saying JG is playing what his coaches are asking him to do is same as...saying nothing! Do you think other players are doing whatever they want on the court? You are delusional, dude! And calling people whores under your breath doesn't change that JG is currently a low basketball IQ player. He might be a smart dude overall but he is not high IQ on the basketball court. Does he have a chance to be smarter on the court? It is a possibility but if he works harder. Full Stop!
I would split our team in two categories: Those who has brains, developed or not. Alpi FVV Amen Jeff Reed Tari Adams Landale The brainless / braindead: Brooks Jalen Jabari Cam Tate "all the defensive guys are on the brainless team" YES It doesnt matter being a pesky defender if you are going do disrupt the offense with stupid, random and low percentage shots far too often.
I mean objectively this is a worse way to do it because there is no measured analysis. It's binary and things don't operate in binary unless its a computer.
