I’d like to see him become an extremely efficient mid-range shooter. He seems more comfortable with that then the 3ball and he can get to the elbow at will. If he can just focus on being an efficient shooter from the field, the long range shooting can develop over time. I say, focus on perfecting that mid-range and improving the defense, and he’ll actually become a good player. Those things should be doable with hard work. Hope it happens.
For Jalen to earn his money he will have to come out of the gate strong and keep it up. I do not see the team spending more than a handful of games trying to get him going.
Another thing that rubbed me wrong in the Roosh incident was how unaware and arrogant he was of his flaws and he basically shut the door on coming off the bench.
Yeah, midrange assassin not very likely, this ugly chart says so. Might as well concentrate on the 3 as mathematically it's a better shot for the modern game. https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/jalen-green-shot-chart
I can understand Barnes and Cunningham. They are expected to be franchise type players. Wagner and Mobley are not projected to be stars. They are nice complementary guys, probably your third best player if you are a championship contender.
There is a reason why most neutral NBA analysts have the Rockets ranked ahead of all the teams here for "most promising future". I'm now even seeing neutral analysts saying the Rockets have a better future than the Magic.
Thank you! I'm so tired of also repeating this to people. When in the entire history of the NBA did a person become an elite mid range shooter in less than a few years? Never. If you're going to spend years, spend it on the 3pter obviously. It's a total myth that working on mid range is easier. I don't know where this myth came from. There are always way more elite 3pt shooters than there are elite midrange shooters. Always. I feel like the poster boy for falling prey to this mid range myth is DeMar DeRozan - the nightmare scenario of how your talent could turn out. Imagine if his first coach said F the midrange start practicing and taking 3's heavily immediately. I bet he'd have had a much better career rather than always being the guy no smart GM ever wanted.
Well duh, that's obviously because Sengun is the greatest of all time, nothing to do with any of his various benchwarmers who he lets play with him.
I don't think any of them are worth that much .... they are kinda middling NBA players. Not bad not exceptional either. Those are the kind of contracts that ruin a franchise.
Barnes is the only contract that has true potential out of that bunch. He has improved every season and probably has the best future out of all of them imo.
No matter how you spin it, they were both inefficient as hell for the first 3 years. Also you know it makes absolutely no difference whether Green can "self create" inefficiently, it's just a sad excuse for not being able to put the ball into the basket. Efficiency has been going up year after year in the NBA, the average TS is now something like 57-58% in 2024. There are no scoring wing/guards on winning teams in this league that shoots as badly as Green while getting the same usage. His numbers are lumped with the likes of Poole, Kuzma, Rozier, Dinwiddie etc. At the end of the day it really doesn't matter if Jalen can creatively beat his man off the dribble, get open looks, if those open looks just end up clanking. He can collapsed the defence 100 times and get a 100 open mid ranges, but if misses 60 of them it's still not a good shot. It would be different if Jalen was an exceptional passer, then he would get a pass for his efficiency woes, but he's just maybe average to above-average for a shooting guard. My biggest fear is that Jalen shows no improvement in refining and specializing his offense. Jack of all trades and master of none scorers are phased out, even well rounded players like Ant, Booker, Tatum have 3-4 go to spots on the court that they constantly go to when they are desperate for a basket. I don't know what Jalen does in the offseason, but whatever training he does just ends up with him freestyling in the regular season with no consistency on anything.
When you say "it makes no difference" I just don't bother reading anymore. You don't have an a ilitt to for measured criticism. Of course it makes a difference. Being the recipient of another player breaking down defenses vs being the one who breaks down defenses. Guys like Paolo have a lower career efficiency than Green. The first three years of Booker's efficiency was about the same. Ant had a third year improvement but for their first two years they had the same exact true shooting percentage at similar volume. And you want to say the promise those guys showed their first few years was "meaningless"?
Ranking the Most Overrated NBA Players Right Now 1. Jonathan Kuminga, Golden State Warriors 2. Jalen Green, Houston Rockets 3. Miles Bridges, Charlotte Hornets 4. Jamal Murray, Denver Nuggets 5. Jonathan Isaac, Orlando Magic https://bleacherreport.com/users/ad2af7e1-f08a-49e6-a2ea-3227c56e6c7b
I think Cade still has enough upside to be a star. He has his struggles. But Detroit is a worse situation than even the Silas era of Rockets. So in my opinion, he has more excuses than Jalen. At this point, Cade is their only hope. Who are they going to pay other than him? I think Barnes has bounced back nicely from his sophomore slump. He is not a first tier star. But he will be their best player going forward.
Booker was considerably more efficient, he was 99 96 101 his first years where jalen is 97 93 93. Ant rookie year was terrible but after that he was 99 97, 97 isn’t amazing though for sure. Paolo is horrendous efficiency wise so far, will be interesting to see his 3rd season though he’s obviously a way better player even with that
Paolo is not a shooting guard. Paolo is a 6'10 PF that can pass and play make at a high level which is very unique in the league. Paolo will have to fix his efficiency if he wants to take the next step to be an All NBA player. In fact he did just that, he improved his efficency in all areas from rookie to sophmore, did Jalen do that from rookie to sophmore to third year? Again if Green can pass exceptionally well he would probably be maxed out right now. Jalen's calling card is literally only scoring, sure he can "break down" the defense, but he has limited vision compared to actual great passers, so it doesn't do much. Why is breaking down defense so important when you can't score efficiently nor could you make the right passes consistently. A miss is a miss at the end of the day. Also Booker's efficiency went up every year in this first 3 years, so did his counting stats. The league average TS in 2017 was 55%, he shot 56% in that season, so no he was not as inefficient as Green. For reference the league average TS is 58 in 2024.
