France's fall kind of reminds me of France's fall in 1940. Very immobile defense and best offense was getting hit.
Dana Brown is likely looking for an above average bat ... perhaps in his last year of a contract ... who can play multiple positions besides DH/1B ... might settle for 1B/DH Pete Alonzo who mostly getting paid what his WAR is worth. We will see.
Except that with Chas, you’re talking about only 150 at bats. So it’s not really the same thing at all. France has been digressing hard for over 2 seasons. Your Chas hate is goofy
Yes France's fall has been much longer. But they were both significantly better than MLB average, actually all-star level and without warning fell to below average level offensively while still in late 20s. Chas has not been given consistent playing time* to try and pull out of his and also is a much smaller sample size, but his fall has also been much further (130 to 64 OPS+ as opposed to 125 to 94 for France) *I would, however, point out that he has never been an everyday starter so its not like this is a change that triggered it. How is it hatred to notice a similarity?
Assuming you trust Singleton, BIG IF..... The advantage of acquiring France for platoon purposes would be avoiding giving up prospects in a trade for a 1B. Outside of Dubon.. Lope, Cabbage, and Caratini are all LH. Astros are showing they avoid Diaz @ 1B, which I disagree with, but they have more information than me. Astros are probably better off with Dubon platooning and saving the roster spot.
You have to get into a very specific sample size to find a time that Singleton had been any good. In July he has a .652 OPS over 62 plate appearances. He's not any good.
No. It has nothing to do with sample size. If he is playing regularly he is decent. If he is on the bench, he's not. From 4/30-5/29 and 6/15-now the Astros have played 57 games and he started 49 of them. He is: .244/.337/.390 = .727 In the other 42 games, he only started 15 times. He was: .213/.299/.230 = .529 He is a classic " gotta play regularly and stay in rythem" kind of player.
Just like to remind the main factor would be he costs nothing and can still hit lefties. I too would like a better player, but better players cost more so it would depend on what we have to give up. I would see it similar to the Aledmys move. We could also be looking at depth if Singleton or Dubon go down. Then you have Cabbage getting a lot of time and I'm not sure they like that defensively.
He does cost money if you claim him off waivers… doesn’t cost much if they just outright/DFA him (which is the next move when nobody claims him… but again, not sure about playoff eligibility at that point).
