Can we please score some runs off this guy for once? Honestly can’t think of another pitcher who has dominated us like this during our run.
Chas has become a strict platoon guy, and it's the short end, as only about 30% of SP are lefthanded. It's absolutely self inflicted and deserved, but I would still like to see him have a few good ABs vs RH relievers late in games and put some pressure on Espada to start him vs a RH once in a while. Chas getting himself out of this funk can only help, but they are not in a position to let him work his way out of it at the expense of a bad spot in the lineup. They gave away any slack they may have had by playing Abreu for so long. Vs RH - vs LH Chas: .585 - .533 Dubon: .638 - .812 Loperfido: .767 - .398 Cabbage: .706 - .286 Chas had those 2 HR on June 22. Since then, he is 5- 38 (.132) with no extra base hits 3 walks and 12 Ks. (.195/.132 = .327 OPS) Chas is making it impossible to play him. The only reason he is starting vs LHSP is because Dubon is an infielder and Loperfido and Cabbage are even worse vs them. He needs to be sent to AAA to rediscover his offense or maybe even given a change of scenery by being traded
He had a bad April and then got injured. When he came back he wasn’t an everyday player anymore. In fact, that may have changed before his injury, I can’t remember. So, basically, if it wasn’t his injury that lost his job it was probably based on his hitting over the first month of the season, maybe less. Someone mentioned one of our starting OF’s is 7-50 over the last couple of weeks. Slumps happen. I thought Chas shoulda had a longer leash as an everyday player than 3-4 weeks. He was carrying a .900+ OPS for a long stretch last year so that could really help us if he can tap back into that.
Thanks, Brother MadMax. I prayed the rosary pretty hard that day for an Astros victory and had a great birthday. The big 3-8.
It’s not just that he’s not hitting…. He’s had more uncompetitive AB’s this year than he did all of last year. Every advanced metric you look at for his hitting suggests this is more than a “slump”. Maybe he was never healthy this year and he’s not telling anybody. Would be more reassuring if it was something like that vs. this being all mental or last year was a fluke year (I know it wasn’t… but it may have been a career year which does happen for guys in their mid to late 20’s).
