There is so much vitriol it's crazy. This seems to happen every year around this time and I want to sing Kumbaya to bring the brothers back to the campfire. But this year I feel different. I don't know if it's the cruise ship fight videos the ALGORITHM tells me I want to watch, but I feel like it's time to circle up, get the shirts off, and throw some hands. Maybe not. But I do think the verbal jousters need to put some skin in the game. Is Jalen starting for the Rockets by the end of the year or not? Or some prediction that will allow you to put your money where you mouth is. Put up or shut up I say. But since I'm not calling anyone names it doesn't apply to me . I'll get the popcorn. But here's my prediction. It's pretty bold but if I'm wrong I'll send money to support CFs (which I should do anyway). By the end of the year Jalen will be starting for Phoenix and Devon Booker will be a Rocket. You heard it here first (or maybe not).
Hope you’re right man, hope you’re right. I hate kobe so I would rather not say positive things about him, regardless of the numbers.
I for one cant wait until its over. Or dies down anyway. But I feel there are 3 resolutions that are possible and here they are in order of my preference. 1) Jalen makes the leap and any true Rockets fan will be happy (some stunned) to see it. 2) Jalen proves that the Jalen of the past is the only Jalen we can expect to ever see. 3) Jalen improves just enough to keep the hopeful hoping, but not enough to win over the naysayers or the FO. This is worst possible outcome IMO because we find ourselves in the same spot we are in now, only one year from now, a decision will have to be made and whatever that turns out to be will be controversial and provoke continued bickering for years to come.
This is a harsh reply. I don't think you understand the context @meh was getting at. Looking at spreadsheets with data all the time you come to see statical anomalies that stand out because they are so different than the rest of the data. Meh's point was Jalen's March hot streak was a statistical anomaly compared to his usual output and he is 100% correct. That does not mean Jalen will not come out the gate and be everything his rabid fans think he will be. We all hope for that but when you look at the statistics over time that does not appear to be the case.
Someone with actual statistical acumen wouldn't say "I see spreadsheets every day" to prove the claim you are defending here. They'd actually use math calculations like standard deviation calculations. Show, not tell. Also "statistical anomaly" makes it seem like Jalen Green splitting double teams and doing airel acrobatics on teams like the Thunder are just some random hot shooting nights rather than a young guard in the NBA figuring it out. Leveling up in the nba isn't a linear path. You gain some ground in understanding the game defenses adjust, you learn more and so on and so forth. It's just the common aspect of asking a 19-22 year old guard in the NBA to do what Jalen is asked to do.
You apparently are not capable of understanding the context of what @meh or I said. That is okay. I do not have the time nor the need to try to statistically prove Jalen will fail next season. Jalen will do that all on his own. I truly hope he succeeds but I have very strong doubts he will due to exactly what meh stated.
It seems like your narcissism is hoping he fails and you are just saying the " I hope he succeeds" just as a throwaway expression. Sincerely ask yourself if you will feel good if Jalen excels next season. Will you actually be happy? Or will you be like "God damn now I have to show fake acceptance of him and pretend that I never was overly harsh on the guy".
I have never wanted Jalen to fail. I am on the other hand a realist. I call them like I see them based on facts and data. I have been wrong and in cases like this I am glad when I am.
The funny thing is I'm not even using more nuanced stats here. I was just spitting out box score stats. If that's now considered too much numbers and not enough eye test, then online discourse pretty can't exist. I mean even NBA scouting reports use stats and those are professional eye-test people.
Don't disguise you vociferously dug in narrative where don't want to stray from it because you don't want to be seen as horribly wrong on a forum as you being a realist who only looks at facts and data. You have a preconceived bias like all of us and run with it. It has nothing to do with realism, statistics or data.
I mean, if that is not a sign of a true cult, I don't know how else to call it. People now have to prove that they are "true believers", not just regular Sunday church-goers...
Also when a 22 year old has a month like Jalen with earlier flashs sin his career, it's different than a 28 year old veteran with a hot shooting month. For a player of Jalen's age and experience is more likely he's just gaining experience. It's a cycle. Sengun struggled for more than two weeks after he had a dominant month as teams readjusted. Green improved, teams adjusted and he has to adjust again. That's how improvement in the NBA happens. It isn't linear.
The thing is, I don't want any player to fail. Yes, if you were to ask me what's more likely, Jalen Green being traded at end of year or him being given a big contract (say something along the lines of Quickley's $175mil contract), I would say the former. But I'm not going to put money on it so I will be rooting for him to fail. It's not worth the trouble. Also the original post I made had nothing to do with predictions. It was simply a recap of what happened last season. Broken down basic stats month to month. That was it. I'm not predicting Jalen won't figure it out in his 4th year, I simply stated he didn't (past tense) figured it out last year.
It seems like this "I want him to succeed" thing is forced to portray yourself as rational. You have a preconceived bias and are afraid of hedging your bets wrong and therefore are afraid about your hundreds of posts ******** on the kid being horribly wrong if he does succeed. Be honest. That's where you are. Don't fake the whole "I want him to succeed" thing. There are posters who criticize Green in rational ways but still give praise where it's deserved(you have consistently downplayed any positive contribution or traits of Green) where I can tell their criticism of Green comes from a sincere place of Rocket fandom than "just wanting to be right". You aren't that.
No. In fact it makes all sorts of sense that I want him to succeed. Because I am a ROCKETS fan and Jalen Green is on the Rockets. Hence him succeeding on the Rockets means the team will have more success. At the same time, because I am a ROCKETS fan, I also dislike the fact that he has not yet succeeded (at least by the standards of a #2 pick with otherworldly athletic traits). Because his lack of success means lack of success for the team. If the Rockets traded Jalen Green tomorrow, I will no longer care for him, success or failure. Because I only care to root for the success of players playing for the Rockets.
No it is not always linear but it does usually have a slope trending upward. Jalen's slope is flatter than I like with a lot of spikes and some VERY high spikes. I am extremely excited to see how he starts off this coming season. I am hoping for the best but have to admit I expect the worst based on his history.
Saying these things are easy. But the reality is your motivations to sht on him as often as you do is from a desire to be right on a Internet forum more so being a rocket fan. I think it's a safe assumption if the next era of great Rocket teams includes Green being one of the high usage primary options of said hypothetical, you will be upset. Because it isn't the situation you specifically predicted or rooted for or spent hours on this forum defending for but rather against and hinged your entire fandom on for the past few years with how frequent you are **** talking him. Don't let your hated of Green define you as a Rocket fan or else IF Green does make a leap of consistency next season, you won't be able to fully embrace it and enjoy it.
Dude, you need to chill. You don't have to fight every post that has a hint of negativity toward Jalen. It's okay you are his fan. Those who doubt Jalen aren't enemies. They are Rockets fans. They just have a different view about Jalen Green. If you can't stand some posters, just put them on Ignore and you'll feel much better. (But if you put everybody who doubts Jalen on Ignore, the forum will be very quiet. )
