I spend my entire days at work looking over spreadsheets and reports. If there's anything I'm sure of, it's that Jalen Green sure just look like a guy who had a great March (against mostly tanking competition) and otherwise just his old inconsistent and mostly below average self.
Yeah it's boring as hell but at least post-covid I get to work at home in t shirt and shorts and have time to play some video games during the slow times. But yeah, it's really fing boring.
You have to put these things into perspective. He was drafted 2-4 years younger than most picks in the past. These circumstances are different than just about any other draft pick in Rockets history. Even tanking teams don't usually give young players the free rein that Green was given. He was given the green light to chuck up just about any shot he wanted under Silas and was given a large allocation of minutes that few players are afforded. With the number of shots he threw up, he damn well better score "lots of points" I'm just not impressed with the sheer volume - he hasn't been "Good" while compiling those raw stats.
I'm very aware that rookie Hakeem was older than Jalen...he was 3 years older as a rookie than Jalen was as a rookie. That was my point about why the 4,000 points thing didn't ring as significant to me...because we haven't had 19 year olds playing...so the competition to be the youngest with the most points, particularly on a team where there weren't a lot of other good options, rang hollow. That's not to say it's completely without value. Again, for the third time, my opinions on Jalen Green and my opinions on this rebuild are entirely different. I don't see Jalen as the crux to a successful rebuild. Those are two separate things to consider in my view. In my lifetime, I've seen the Rockets throw up records of 14 wins, 29 wins, 31 wins, 34 wins, 28 wins, and 34 wins in seasons prior to the tank job that led to our current roster. I completely agree with the notion that we bottomed out worse in 20/21 than in any season since I was about 8 years old, immediately prior to drafting Dream. But damn, we won 28 games in 2001/2 with arguably the best player being freaking Cat Mobley (at least by win shares if that matters -- Francis dealt with injuries that year as I recall)...and that roster turned over entirely shortly thereafter. In fact, that iteration of the Rockets failed to make the playoffs at all (in a league where more teams make the playoffs than don't) from the 99/00 season through the 02/03 season. That whole Francis era felt like a massive post-championship/Dream era rebuild to me that led absolutely nowhere other than moving on from that roster --- landing the #1 pick thankfully and being able to package some guys for McGrady. I've seen about 6 Rockets teams off the top of my head that I thought were title contenders, the last being in 2018. I guess how we define "rebuild" might be different, but being on the mediocrity treadmill feels, to me at least, like you're constantly rebuilding to be something other than what you are, regardless of how you do that...and nearly everything on the roster is movable to get there. I'm encouraged by the direction of the franchise overall right now. I think they absolutely have the right coach. I think they have some interesting parts. I don't see enough to say, "oh, man we're title bound soon!"...but that's ok, because if the right trade comes along all that rebuilding may be for packaging the necessary parts to acquire the guy or guys who put you in that conversation. I have no problem with them drafting Jalen Green at the time they did it. None at all. I don't hate Jalen...I'm not in a spot where I "can't handle" waiting around on a roster to be a contender, because I've been waiting around for most of my life as a fan for all of my teams to be that...that's just how it works imo. I've been a Houston pro football fan for 50 years too...that's a helluva lot of waiting and rebuilding over and over and over again. I had season tickets watching the Astros intentionally try to lose games so they could rebuild...all the while selling shirts that say PROCESS on them. That's far more difficult to suffer through, because the fruits of the tanking are all playing outside of Houston in the minors for years before you even get to see them contribute to turning it around. I don't think Jalen's inconsistency is a bug...I think it's a feature. I'd love to be wrong about that, and I understand how people might think I and others are wrong about that. I'm not saying we should trade him right this second, either.
Did you genuinely type that out in all seriousness? Literally everybody who works in an office spends all day looking at spreadsheets, it's not a mark of competency, or a skill set. ****, the absolute WORST people in my team can use excel, doesn't stop them being complete incompetents you'd never want touching your account ever if you could help it.
So you haven't played in the NBA, and you are criticizing others because you don't have anything to do and it makes you feel like you are important but you are not. So you are a loser.
I never said I was competent at my job or deserve what my company's paying me for. I mean after I am on clutchfans during work time. I was just suggesting I can read numbers to see if they go up or down. Which admittedly is something even a grade school student can do. So I should rather say instead I have a high school diploma so I'm able to understand what happens when numbers go up and then come down. I apologize for suggesting anything beyond that.
Well if you thought that I was criticizing a fellow clutchfans poster for not being able to play in the NBA, I apologize to both of you. I did not mean anything like that. Also I don't understand why anyone would think a job as boring as what I do to be self-important. Because I can certainly say I have the most boring ass job among all my friends, and I absolutely hate it. That said, when I post some numbers that go up and then come down and then go up and then come down, I am fairly certain that interpreting that as "consistently got better" is not the right phrase.
You know where JG is great? Dribble handoffs with Alperen Sengun. It’s a shame we don’t run them more to optimize both guys. I have no idea why Udoka is so intent on running so many isolations. Let Alperen facilitate for these guys. We should have a nutload of Princeton in our offense
Were you drunk when you posted this? High? 14 years old? Nothing he wrote suggested self-importance. Good lord, there’s a whole host of you who never learned how to disagree with someone without being a dick and insulting. Nothing we’re talking about is important enough to call someone a loser.
So, in an effort to get better RIGHT NOW, you're willing to trade one of your best players for a player(s) who is in the 5th or 6th grade today?
He's not talking about trading one of the best players, he's talking about trading Jalen Green, someone who won't be getting a new contract with the team anyway, so the options are to trade him if you can find a mark or let him walk for nothing.
Lol. Loser is being KIND on this site. Bigot, racist, stupid, ignorant, etc., etc. are just a few names Ive seen on this site, just because a person disagree with another person. And please don't say anything negative about Sengun!
Green sucks so much that he doesn't deserve a contact, we need to trade him now or we will lose him for nothing. The logic is so mind numblingly stupid from green haters. If he sucks no one would offer him the bag, meaning we can retain him for cheap or force a short term prove it deal. If a team offers the motherload, we have the option to match after having another season to gauge green progress. If he sucks why are we trading a former 1st round pick for garbage value? No one wants to trades for the sake of trading unless u r a green hater. Is he a lockeroom cancer? No. Did anyone outplay him for his position yet? No. Has the coach given up on him yet? No. Is he a bust and the next Brewer 2.0? No. Just stfu and let the season play out instead of yapping the same sht in different threads.
who here is saying that? I'm not saying that no one is saying that, but I'm not sure who is. I do have a few people on ignore, so maybe I'm missing those posts.
A guy saying he's looking at numbers on a spreadsheet and commenting on his reflections from that doesn't deserve loser. We can certainly be better than that. It's just basketball after all, and Jalen will never miss a meal for the rest of his life. No one lost an appendage. Folks need to grow up.
I'm sure it's just a dumb person's version of something that was actually said.....that Jalen Green won't get a contract from the Rockets if he has another bad season like the first 3. The Rockets are going to have cap problems eventually, they can't keep everyone. If Jalen Green shows, yet again, that he's not a starting caliber player, he'll be gone. Of course, I think just about everyone who matters would agree that's not a controversial statement at all....so we see a strawman version pop up.
