Trumpsters are really reaching here. They have no way to defend Jan 6th, so they just act like it never happened. Have you noticed that they won't even acknowledge it even happened? Now they are trying to claim the moral high ground because people are saying trump is a threat to democracy. As if that's somehow worse than a giant mob of racist rednecks storming the capital, murdering 5 police officers, hunting for Mike Pence and Nancy Pelosi so they could murder them too, all while trying to overthrow the government. It boggles my mind how any God-fearing family value-loving flag-waiving Republican could still support Trump after he and his brownshirted mob of racist buffoons tried to overthrow the government on Jan 6th.
agree with your points, but i dont believe 5 cops were murdered. 3 died after the insurrection. one due to a stroke suffered after he was bear maced by a trump supporter and two by suicide.

Caring a range finder isn't a crime. It's suspicious activity for sure and it was flagged but it's not a reason to detain someone. Also, you're in Pennsyltucky with a bunch of rednecks wearing camo and hunting/shooting/military paraphernalia isn't that weird. The idea dozens of people who don't know each other from the Pennsylvania state police/secret service and whatever other organizations [who must have been the masterminds] came together and conspired to have a dweeby, loner, 20 something, who couldn't shoot have an attempt on Trumps life, let him get 3 quick shots off and then kill him immediately... for some unknown reason... is just... stupid.
it's not even that weird. I'm sure people carry binoculars at these rallies (although maybe not); but certainly someone with binoculars outside the immediate rally area would not necessarily be cause for alarm; and a person outside the rally area with a range finder is not necessarily out of the ordinary given such devices can be used with one hand and are somewhat more convenient to use than binoculars. So the range finder in and of itself is not really the huge clue some folks might assume it is

I agree it appears a big part of the failure is the coordination and expectations of LEO. They may not have been properly trained. The SS should have managed them more directly or at the very least trained them as they seemed to handle this like a common criminal and not someone trying to assassinate a presidential candidate.
