she/they hulk > acolyte > secret invasion? speaking of wookies, dija know the ewoks was supposed to be wookies? ewoks was my favorite part of the original trilogy, but wookies would have also been dope in retrospect. i never liked wookies tho, they scare me.
One of the great triumphs of Cinema was pulling off Chewbacca, because seriously, that could have gone so wrong. It went near perfect. Everyone bought into it.
I have become more selective . . . in the past I would have probably watched this now I am satisfied watching youtubers recap and hilariously slander it Rocket River
Because they're nothing burgers. It's one thing to be proven wrong, but all these gimmicky writers have is shock value and mysteries that go nowhere. They're throwing stuff against the wall to appeal to Zoomer/tiktok crowds because traditional media is shriveling up fast and apparently good stories are hard to write.
I don't know if it's "hate watching", but after Ep3 I continued watching out of curiosity. Ep7 yesterday was an incredibly hard slog to finish. For a series that supposedly cost ~$200 million for just 8 episodes, the production is terrible. The show has not found a groove or gained any momentum. I think the producers and actors must have realized that on the set. They really bombed on the actress who plays the twins, who clearly isn't ready for a lead role.
I think I dropped after Episode 3 or 4 I am seriously not seeing 180 million dollars worth of production value If this is the most expensive one . . . I don't see how Andor was ssssooooooooo much better. . . even in sets and filming This show has some familiar faces/names I wonder what the salaries are . . . . Trinity and Squid Game guy . . . how much an episode? 50 million in preproduction???? Seriously?? Rocket River
The difference between this show and Andor S1 is staggering. Andor proves Star Wars can be done right without drawing from the same old, tired wells. On the other hand, some of the YouTubers that rip The Acolyte have gone so far over the top, they've actually hurt their cause. They are pandering to their red meat audience just as badly as Disney is pandering to kook activists and agendas on the opposite side. But Critical Drinker's critique of Ep7 is pretty much a home run and reflects most everything that went through my mind when watching it. If you're gonna pander to an agenda, at least do it with a quality production. Isn't $180 million enough to make that happen?
One problem I have with a lot of reviewers is that they are, to some degree, what the show creators are accusing them of being. People like "The Critical Drinker" do infuse their reviews with sexist and "anti-woke" points of view. While I don't dispute that Leslye Headland is pushing her own agenda with female protagonists, cast diversity, and lesbian references, I don't think a lot of it is heavy handed enough to warrant the amount of continued backlash from some of these reviewers. I think there's a way to criticize those aspects of the show without resorting to sexism and misogyny. I've come to learn that stuff like this is par for the course with "The Critical Drinker" and that he's generally critical of strong female protagonists, regardless of the context. And of course the show as a whole is bad enough already, it's not necessary to be sexist to be critical of the show
Very well put. Maybe Disney should have hired Shonda Rhimes. For $20+ million PER EPISODE, she could probably create the runaway #1 rated show in history. Confession: Please forgive me, but I watched several seasons of Scandal (until it completely "jumped the shark") because the production was so good. It was chock full of tiresome, repetitive "girl power" at the expense of (mostly white) men, but I found Rhimes' skill at putting together episodes to be amazing. Particularly the way individual episodes closed.
I find the Drinker to be funny I never take him too seriously Yes. . . if he feels the slightest bit of a "woke agenda" he jumps in hip deep. Some use it to get clicks as well Snarky J and Alteori (both female) They too are funny and maybe more upset about the "Agenda" than the Drinker I think all of them are chasing that audience but like A_3PO said . . . .. they aren't wrong though Rocket River
Here's the music from the ending credits of The Acolyte E7 They say to themselves, "How much Star Wars can we destroy or supplant with garbage, and still call it Star Wars?
With the way they've been talking down and lobotomizing scripts in SW and Marvel shows, I don't think they're targeting the Shonda Rhimes' demo (professional or 30+ women) rather what they think the zoomer demo would watch instead of TikTok. It's probably a better idea to rope her in but her shows are usually hits without the expensive sfx. Different kind of eye candy. Plus I doubt she'd want to be constrained with ridiculous tie ins and potential merchandising ploys.
Well, I gutted it out and watched all 8 episodes. (Should have stopped at ep3). The finale was corny and drawn out. The series was a massive fail for Disney who, IMO, has driven a stake into what was a valuable franchise. What enthusiasm I had for Andor S2 is about dead. I'll wait until all episodes are released before deciding whether or not to bother.
Watched the whole thing too and it was a big nothing burger, only a few midly interesting things in it but the writing and cast just aren't very good. That being said it doesn't effect my interest in the 2nd season of Andor, capable cast and far more mature approach with a definate end point, so still looking forward to that one.....
You guys make me happy I didn't let my Complete-ist imperative push me through it I cannot wait for the reviewers who Hate watch it to give their major snark and jokes at its expense Rocket River
They pulled the memory wipe right out of a soap opera story. I mean, seriously. That's your ending. And it didn't even make sense why they would do it. Let's just forget everything happened. This was soo bad. It actually got worse in the finale. I had zero reason to care about any, let alone even one of the characters fate by the last episode.
Tracking the plotting . . . . Whole lot of questions Spoiler who was the bad guy? The Good guy? What was the goal of either? What was the point of the story . . .. . They basically made the Jedi into Storm Troopers. Incompetent and plot relatedly useless Dude wipe the forest with 10 Jedi at once but has a struggle with one? What *exactly* did the Wookie do to deserve death? Are we suppose to feel some type of way for these murderous sisters? Sol killing the mom that looked like she was about to kill a child . .. how the hell was he suppose to know and hell ole girl may have been lying with her last words? The Jedi just lied on Sol to Everyone and Yoda was cool with that? Rocket River
