Ok, now put in the most important stat for the role on the team they'd need to play: POINTS PER GAME. Y'all can pretend efficiency means more than the actual stats as much as you want, but Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan are bigger stars than Reggie Miller and Ray Allen for a reason... Efficiency is worthless if you can't score more than 10 a game.
It would be cool but would it be worth it given how we would be then subjected to the worst ranked offense in the league if we traded Green for Asur?
Problem is, the clock is ticking & some guys in his draft class have gotten the bag. At some point soon a decision will have to be made
Ya others on teams more desperate who don't have a 7 deep roster of 22 and under guys with high level talent that just won 41 games. If Green was on the Pistons he would have already gotten his max extension because that is the type of franchise they are. Rockets have the luxury of playing the wait and see game. Sengun didn't get an extension either and the vast majority of people believe he deserves it more than the guys from the 2021 class who've already gotten their extensions.
Green will shoot up to number 3 if he just averages around 19 ppg up till February and that would be a disappointment for him.
... and he'll still be on the way towards not getting offered a new contract by the Rockets if he's as inefficient as he has been his first 3 seasons. Chucker stats impress delusional fanbois and casuals, but they don't earn you a new deal or increase your trade value.
When you strip away ALL the context, sure the clock is ticking/others have been paid...but that's why context matters. Houston holds all the cards as the team that drafted him and it's actually in the best interest of both the team AND it's players to make sure that next season's FA offers are made before locking in Sengun and/or Green - it's how the salary cap is designed to work. If you are a team that's already over the cap - then that incentive does not exist, but for where Houston's cap situation is, they stand to build a better roster out if they build the team out that way so why wouldn't they do that? TLDR, there is literally no advantage to signing Green or Sengun right now. Just wait and use the opportunity to get more data on both players(and more specifically to get more data on how the other players on this roster complement or have competing skill sets against those players.
