When Trump mentioned JD Vance looks and the Abraham Lincoln beard thing few days back, It sounded fairly confident he was going to be the pick.

I know very little about JDVance. I haven't heard him speak so far. I am not sure how much he can add to the coalition of the ticket

May be Trump got too confident about his chances after the debate and most recent one

As you know they wanted the last one hung after the soft coup attempt. It'll be different this time though!

From the Philadelphia Inquirer "Former student Max R. Smith remembered Crooks as an intelligent classmate with conservative political leanings. Smith recalled participating in a mock debate in a course they took together, where their teacher posed questions on government policy and had students stand on opposite sides of the classroom to signal their support or opposition. 'The majority of the class were on the liberal side, but Tom, no matter what, always stood his ground on the conservative side.'

He was a gun fetishist. He wore a Demolitia T-shirt, he was a member at a gun club. He was a registered Republican. The donation was 3 years ago, $15, and for some local group but perhaps that donation was by somebody else since it is associated with the wrong zip code and wrong city. The father is a registered Republican. This is a consistent picture. Dude is an R.

Why do some of the Repubs on here think Vance is a mistake?
Trump requires absolute boot-licking, and Vance has been doing that 100%, on every single talking point, for the last 2 years. Demonstrating fealty.

I don't think choosing Vance costs them any votes at all. He's the most likely to agree with Trump and, in the event of Trump getting sick or something, Vance is most likely to continue the MAGA brand (if you believe his last two years of statements anyway -- might have to ignore big chunks of his book, but whatever).

I was pleasantly surprised. Now the whole BBS can find common ground bagging on Vance.

well turns out the Vance choice ultimately turned on a more prosaic issue

VP runners up reveal: Who did Trump almost pick over Vance?

    https://nypost.com/2024/07/16/us-news/vp-runners-up-reveal-who-did-trump-almost-pick-over-vance/

    excerpt:

In his final decision, Trump chose Vance in part because he couldn’t get over the “hurdle” of Rubio’s residency issue, the source familiar said, as both men live in Florida.

“The president just couldn’t get over the residency issue, just because of the legal issues that would inevitably come … There was just a conversation of ‘Alright, if that’s a hurdle we can’t get over, then understood,'” the source added.

Because Trump and Rubio are from the same state, constitutionally they could not have both been on the ticket unless one changed their address.
had no idea this was an issue. more at the link
