If its illegal to assassinate anyone and someone still tried it you don't think criminals will still get their hands on guns?

Should we make rape not illegal then?

Sort of - he registered as a Republican several years ago if I remember correctly.

A lot of these same questions were asked of Sirhan Sirhan and Oswald as well....... and the shooter that shot Reagan had a similar background as well. Look into the assassination of Garfield and the shooter was not someone that anyone would have expected.

In most - if not all of these cases, mental illness played a part.

We like to believe, especially in the USA that the government can keep the most powerful people safe with technology.... but the reality is that sometimes the most ordinary people change history.

I don't know what happened with the Trump assassination attempt - outside of a name, very little is known.... so anything is possible, but seeing people like Walsh attempt to weave this into something for his political benefit is really dubious.

Some will - others will not.

This guy, he was 20 years old and used his dad's gun.... would have been hard for him to get the gun if it wasn't so easy to get them.

Nothing works in absolutes, but decreasing the supply of guns makes it harder for everyone that wants one, to get one.

Rapists often use firearms to force their victims.

Also in terms of home use of firearms, statically they've been used more often in domestic dispuits targeting a family member than in self defense from an intruder.

The people who cry loudest about being "the good person with a gun" are often the first to gat their spouse because they complained too much

And people carrying can also prevent getting raped. If someone is violent enough to lose total control and kill someone how can you guarantee that not having a gun is going to deter them? Do we ban knives, hammers, power tools, pillows as well?

Are those tools as effective as ending life in a convenient manner as firearms?

Is a pillow a point a fire weapon that can instantly kill as easily as a firearm?

I'm all for ownership of firearms for self defense. Hell given the political climate, id advocate for minority groups like trans people or Latino people who might be mistaken as illegal migrants to be packing due to MAGA people roaming around this country armed themselves.

But I do believe in some basic restrictions for prevention based on age, criminal history, domestic abuse history etc.

It worked great for a while, but then this one guy kept coming back, and then he brought friends, and now I don’t know who I am or what’s going on anymore.

I do think Gun ownership should require classes, someone who does not know what to do could be less effective than someone with a blunt force tool. A pillow is an extreme but I've watched enough movies and shows to know its highly effective. Do you not feel at least a little bit guilty of fear mongering?

Do classes on firearm safety help the mental issues of a domestic abuser?

Do I feel guilty of fear mongering about migrant farm hands, Muslims, and trans people?
No. Because I don't do that. The people you support do that.

No but it can help the victim free themselves from the abuser...
