I like Jock. Good guy. I think Robinson can protect the rim better while supplying the same intangibles.
If he was that good why Miami cut him. Jock did more than protect the rim he scored in the post, shot 3s and made a poor man's Sengun impersonation with his passing. When did Orlando have a night like this in the NBA?
Who knows. I think the guy just needs PT and maybe he wasn't getting enough there to show anything. He already shoots 35+% three pointers. Plays good defense and plays well with Cam and Reed. Definitely worth having minutes off the bench.
Robinson is a better player than Dante as of now for sure, and it should be - Robinson is a veteran where Dante is an undrafted rookie. For a project perspective, I do like the Dante signing. Dante has some intriguing post moves and good nose on defense, and he could be developed into a serviceable big that gives you 15 minutes a game and could be more based on matchups. For a conspiracy theory, if Heat couldn't develop Robinson into a rotation player, the Rockets probably couldn't as well. This is not down on Rockets, but it a praise to the Heat how good their development programs are. Realistically, Robinson may not accept a 2-way as he could be picked up by some teams after the summer league.
So? Rox can have 3 Cs but Miami can't? Those highlights aren't impressive at all I dont even know why some of those got credited as assists since he was just passing to Jimmy who would ISo and shoot with guys in his face.
Sure for the 2 way why not. I'm just saying player for player Landale is better than him. The competition is Nfaly Dante vs Orlando Robinson and not Jock Landale vs Orlando Robinson. Landale got picked up on his 8M contract OR got cut by the Heat. Balling out in SL is nice but isn't comparable to Landale holding down the fort in Sengun's absence.
Adams is making more than Jock and an expiring. He could be traded at season end unless he signs for a cheaper deal. Landale's contract is not guaranteed making him a very attractive asset for contenders. Either or both of them can be gone and traded for assets to save on money for extensions. Let's see what happens.
Only reason to play him instead of Landale is if we're trading Landale. They're both end of bench players, but Jock's got more experience behind him so is probably more useful.
He attempts 0.4 3 pointers a game though, so that's a nothing stat. His 3 pointers last season is 8/15, for his rookie season he went 0/6 lol. To be fair with the comparison: Jock Landale went 10/40 last season and 21/84 the season before. He's still not a great 3pt shooter, but he at least has a sample size you can use to judge. I shoot more 3's every time I go to the park than Robinson shot his entire career lol.
Landale is more than an "end of bench" player. He proved he's a legit backup C last season after he got healthy.
Is he really though? I know people love to say "the counting stats don't matter" but they kinda do (as they're the ones on the actual scoreboard/box score) and even his percentages aren't particularly wowing at all. Somebody who's never averaged more than 10points a game is a benchwarmer. He may become more than that in future (which he has the skill to do) but until he actually does it, it's all just conjecture.
Did you actually watch him play late in the season (after fully recovering from his injury)? His efficiency on offense and scrappiness on defense was a part of the reason the Rockets didn't collapse after Alpi was injured. Instead, they won 9 games in-a-row. This is not "conjecture".
Yeah I did, if people can dismiss Green's superstar run as "he was just against bad teams" what does that make Jock's performance? He played great towards the end of the season, until he averages more than 7pts and 5 rebounds a game, he's a benchwarmer.
