Hope he improves his handles a little more. He's not a shooting guard. FVV will leave Reed will be our pg and Amen will be a creative wing.
You're right. He was 21 as a rookie, which would have, in this age of ridiculous "youth fetishization", pushed him down to the middle/end of the 1st round of the draft.
Shut him down until the real season. He's pretty much as advertised. Just plays the right way, in the right positions, makes the right passes, pokes at every ball on defense
I've heard all of that thousands of times at this point, but it's all a lot of conjecture in truth. If we look at actual real-life performance and what we've seen so far Amen brings very little on the offensive end outside of the dunker spot. Given, he brings a metric ****load on the defensive end, but we're already a top 10 defense without him starting. Smith is already a solid defender, who scores in a multitude of ways compared to Amen, and he's actually doing that we're not just making up what we think he might do in the future. Tari I can mostly agree with where you're coming from, but his stats are almost identical to Amen's in a similar number of minutes, with less turnovers (and he's not supposed to be a main ballhandler) more rebounds and he can actually hit a 3 more than once every 10 shots. I'm sorry, I just don't see it.
Never seen Ime smile this big. Ime looking at reed like he's a Boston Celtics VP of travel and accomodations
We've really only seen on-ball Reed on offense. Off-ball Reed is gonna feast with actual NBA-level playmaking. He's been off ball so well but no body wants to feed him for wide open 3's.
Here it is: Sengun - Max Jabari - Near Max Tari - MLE level money Thompson - Max Whitmore - Near Max Sheppard - Max Jalen will definitely be the odd man out.
So FVV is 6’1” and RS in shoes looks closer to 6’3”. I don’t see the height concerns with RS. Dude looks exactly as a PG should be size wise. FVV looks small out there but RS looks the part. So he can shoot, plays defense, is composed, makes the right pass, can handle the rock just fine, and has really good hops for a PG. What the heck else could you want from your PG? Give him a year under Ime and FVV. Trade or let FVV walk and RS takes over next year.
It reminds me of how Chris Paul played for us in 2017-18. I'm not sure he'll ever have the offensive "bag" handle/creation ability, but that mid-range shot, the floater game, the elite hands on D, the smart pass on almost every play. #TeamCPReed
Jabari getting the max would be like giving it to Trevor Ariza. Anyway that salary structure you just outlined is not really possible unless you want to be a second apron team (and lol, yeah) and I don't even think it's possible then. 3 max deals is basically jail - 3 max deals AND 2 "near max" deals - whatever that means - is impossible Some of these guys will turn into other guys - it's just the way it is
Oh no doubt. He was playing with a top-shelf glorified AAU team at Kentucky, albeit with a proper system and proper coaching. Him playing with bonafide NBA players will be fun as hell to watch.
We saw it in the flaming chaos of the 1st half today, but I get your point. When they returned him back on-ball in the 2nd half, the chaos on offense disappeared. Reed will play off ball most of the time early in the season and he should thrive as an elite sniper.
I see us having a home grown big three. I think Alpi and Reed will be stars. The only question is who will emerge as the third one out of Amen, Cam, and Jalen? I am betting it will be Amen.
Thompson is an all NBA caliber defender. Nobody else on our roster can do what he does. He also makes everyone else better. Smith, Whitmore and Eason don't really do that. Thompson also brings more versitility to thde team. He brings defense, he can score, he can pass and he can rebound. He fits well with everyone because he can do so many things. We're most likely not going to be able to extend everyone and keep the core 7 together long term due to the new CBA. There will probably be a trade made in the next couple of years that will send out some of our young guys. It could go a lot of ways, but if I had to guess, I'd say that Amen and Sheppard are the most likely to be here long term. It sucks that that we may have to get rid of some of our young talent but having too much young talent is a good problem to have.
He went 7th, way too low, but still mid lottery. You can see the league's appreciation for the archetype grow over the last 15 years from draft results. Trae Young got picked 5th in 2018, and now Reed Sheppard 3rd in 2024.
