No, because the ONLY criteria should be how qualified someone is for the specific job. If someone were to randomly introduce a threshold of 10 % Asians and 30 % Whites for the NBA, and x % women and y % trans people and z % handicapped people - the product would not be the same. The point about DEI is not whether direct causality of DEI for the failures in this incident can be proven. The point about DEI is for people to understand that if you select based on quotas instead of on merit/qualification, you will get worse results.

DEI is not awful. The way I see it, DEI doesn't mean hire someone without qualification. It means don't leave someone with qualification. In my opinion, the lack of understanding on what it means is the awful part. Misusing it in implementation can be the awful part. But that happens at all levels of hiring. Just as an example, we have seen some awful hiring in lower courts past few years due to heavy partisan focus. Zoning in on DEI for this incident seems out of place and insincere to me particularly when we have no clue on the qualifications of people guarding former president.
