We have one side who tried to illegally overthrow the government on Jan 6. And the other side who has tried to kill the former president and current presidential candidate. The division in this country has to stop. We have the far right and left tearing the country apart. It is sad. 30 percent on both sides don’t want to compromise.
Singular presidential assassination attempts happen often. To equate that to a former president convincing 2/5ths of the population that our vote counting is fake news is a racial real concern. Every president has experienced attempts. So closer to success than others. No presidential assassination attempt in itself expresses the state of the country. It's a very meaningless metric. Or else the state of the country under every presidential term is dire. What Trump has done to the electorate in questioning our most basic vote counting rallies is unique and unprecedented for this country.

The last eight years of my life have involved a dude running on fear and hate. Am I supposed to be surprised that things are getting violent? Hopefully, security will be beefed up for everyone from here on out so no one else is injured.
I remember when Uvalde parents were burying their children and down the road politicians gathered at a NRA rally supporting loose gun laws and arming up with weapons. They cheered for gun freedom instead of being there supporting those families. What one guy can do with an AK-47 to a bunch of innocent little children is sickening. Those lives are just as meaningful as any politician or celebrity. Yes, as long as we have millions of weapons in the hands of mentally ill people, radicals and extremists, druggies and alcoholics, hate group members, and violent people this country is broken.
I'm very curious how things will unfold politically the next few weeks. It's best if both sides calm down, but they won't. It has been worse though.
Politicians have more security measures to protect them than anyone else. Luckily that saved a lot more innocent people from getting gunned down at the rally down by some sicko. Then again, it could have been a hit job paid for by some unknown person. Hope they find out if that's the case. Greed and revenge often drives spouses and family members to hire hit jobs.

The difference is that Trump backed the Jan 6th rioters calling them patriots. Biden and the Democrats immediately denounced the attempted assassination of Trump.
Hmmm what changed in 2016 that scorched any semblance of decency we had as a Democratic peaceful society? The idiot that shot at Trump today is not on the side of peaceful democracy that’s for sure and if you threw out the nuts on the hardcore facist right and the idiots on the far left who are dumb enough to think a failed assassination attempt of a far right figure will help their cause, there would be a vast majority of Americans there in the middle who with left with the choice would 100% choose to remain a peaceful Democratic society instead of choosing to devolve into a 3rd world country. I’m still hopeful we can come out of this but after today I’m doubtful because the outcome will be many more on the right thinking that there’s nothing left of democracy because they’ll be lied to in thinking that this one idiot actually represents “the left” and they’ll resign to the notion that violence and fascism is their only option now. This moron today is truly the worst possible thing that could have happened to our democracy and the best thing that could ever happen for an upcoming Trump autocratic rule.
Maybe but it is 100% the truth. I know many many Trump supporters. I’ve never seen them so Gleeful in my life as they are today. We can be respectful and condemn political violence while also speaking the truth that this is everything that the MAGA movement wanted in their quest for absolute power. But at the same time yes I feel the need as a decent human being to say that regardless I hope we all use this moment to join hands and sing kumbaya… but I’m no dummy.
