I agree and I think that’s what the Rockets might be looking at in terms of putting Amen at point and RS as a combo guard/shooter off the bench. They have some flexibility and options with both Amen and RS.

Except Amen cant shoot. So being a starting 3 that can’t shoot will only clog the offense even more.

JMO but I believe RS has too much shooting touch to get only 15 mins.of rotational play. Minutes will progress as season goes on. We have a ton of talent..true...but,no one makes the ball go through the hoop at a higher pace than he does. Brand new and all. Amen and Cam (however used) bring a lot to the table...but Amen needs serious work on his shot.

Cam uber talented but often forgets he has a team out there with him. What he does by himself is dynamic but, his body language when things are not going his way are still disappointing. Still raw though and will get better...just some flashes of immaturity and growing up needed. He's a gamer. May have all star potential as with Amen but is a ways from that. Holiday good rotational but I think he'll not be a challenge to RS minutes. FVV is FVV...when he's on, he's good but not that consistent.... His experience alone mentoring is very valuable especially to RS. Don't want to go crazy off of one game but RS will have far more value to us than a 15 min. rotational player. Too many ways to use RS in combo with Green,Amen,Holiday whoever. Again, JMO.

Amen definitely has pg skills and displayed it at times when he was handling the rock on the perimeter. I get what you’re saying since he stands in the short corner or restricted area getting dunks off a Green or Sengun drive. But he is far from KJ since he has a very quick burst off the dribble and is very effective driving from the perimeter to the paint to make plays. He never fully ran point last year but it will be interesting how they use him this year.

Reed definitely delivered the goods this game and I couldn’t be more happy.
Summer league usually has high expectations with lower results due to guys forcing things to try to show off their value on top of playing with guys they have never played with before. And for Reed to come in and show us the potential first game was a real treat. Im one of the biggest homers out there for houston sports but Im already totally sold on Reed being a pivotal part of the Rockets core.

Sheppard is ahead of Holiday on the depth chart. He is getting minutes day 1.

Don’t get the All Star talk. That bowling ball pass was stupid and lucky it didn’t get picked off. Really tough watching this guy play since everything is forced. Even after a season under his belt he hasn’t learned to play within the flow of the game.

    Rockets future core should be

Reed, Green, Eason, Bari, Alpi, Amen

These 6 players need to stay together

It is very much possible to keep them together

That could turn out to be a trade that the Rockets would regret. I would rather trade Jalen before Cam, as I think he has more long term potential, even though Jalen's all around game is currently better (except athleticism and shooting of course).

How is an unproven rookie ahead of a trusted vet and proven vet?

Talent. If Reed is the second guard off the bench to start the season, I'll be shocked... I view Holiday more as an insurance policy in case of injuries...

What has Cam done athletically that Jalen can’t do?

Cam also shot 30% from 3 (31/101) his last 19 games. And 16% tonight

Because with nights like tonight + the fact that he is the no 3 pick + the fact that we are still in a talent development phase of our team. They aren't going to keep reed shepard on the bench just because aaron holiday is a vet. That does nothing for this team. They are going to find minutes for reed sheppard, trust me on that.

I don’t think so. I believe Holliday is there for a reason to play that backup pg role and help guide Reed as they ease him in. Udoka has shown he trusts Holliday and his vets. Maybe he sees more minutes towards the end of the season and next year.

I did not say that. Right now Holliday is the better player and trusted by the coaching staff. An unproven rookie who isn’t starting likely wouldn’t supercede a proven and trusted vet. He may move up in the depth chart depending on his growth and development but likely won’t be the case to start the season considering Udoka’s preference for Holiday last year and his emphasis on defense. Holliday is a very good man defender. Reed isnt a good man defender and got beat several times tonight.

I understand that you think Udoka wants to play Holiday over Reed because Holiday is a vet. I disagree. Holiday's development and playing time is not at all a priority on this team. Reed's is. The only reason Holiday got as many minutes as he did last year was because we had no one else.

Udoka doesn’t just play anyone and he has mentioned he likes Holliday’s toughness on defense. Holliday earned his minutes as a spark plug on offense and defensive toughness. To say he wasn’t a priority is disrespectful especially given the fact they re-signed him
