Jokic had a long way to go in 2016. I'm not saying Alpi is a better player than Jokic today. But when looking at trades, I also look at "years left" and "appreciating asset vs. depreciating asset" (mostly based on age/wear and tear). Jokic has peaked and might not play many more years. Sengun is on the way up. I guess many people would have traded 2016 Jokic for 2016 Chris Paul (then 30). It would have been a terrible trade. On the younger guys: You can certainly make the argument that Doncic, SGA and maybe also Edwards are currently better players than Alpi. Although I would argue that your "Alpi has a long way to go to become a top 5ish player" (or future one in Ant's case) is misguided. Why would you be any more sure about that in Ant's case than in Sengun's? I would argue that these other young guys have mostly just been getting the ball and the green light more. And then I look at it from an asset-building perspective: None of these guys will be traded by their teams anyway! So even if you actually wanted to prop up your own player's trade value, you should talk him up. Not say **** like "he had a rough camp" or "none of our players are where we want them to be". Endorse the **** out of your best young player (while still challenging him to get even better). That gets you several benefits - first of all, it will make him feel valued, secondly, it can become kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy, and thirdly, it actually improves his trade value. The only logical explanation why we haven't been doing that is that either Stone genuinely has very different personal preferences and/or he doesn't want to hurt the feelings of another young player, while that guy is still on the roster - or he doesn't want to damage that other player's trade value. To me, what makes most sense is that this is misdirection. We are using Sengun as bait (because he is the guy all other teams want), but the guy we really want to trade is Jalen.
Can't keep cycling through high lottery picks forever. That's a different kind of treadmill, even worse than the mediocrity treadmill. At some point you have to develop the best players you have.
I think its possible but I think they want one of two things; 1) A player similar to Makil Bridges, who is very good but not great, who is on a good contract. Or 2) A player who can become a center piece; i.e, Devon Booker.
You're Plowman, not Stone. Apparently, there's something on the Knicks that Stone wants. He contacted them is what reports are saying
Honestly, Thibbs and Ime have some similarities in their styles and coaching beliefs. They like two way players or players with defensive pedigree. They like vets. With that said, there’s nobody on the Knicks I rather have over Sengun, including Brunson. and slo I t should be reports that all those guys in the Knicks are dude to be paid outside of the guys they just unsigned or resigned. Randle and Brunson are eligible for extensions after next season. Not big on paying undersized guards(Brunson) supermax. rather go after Booker, or even Ja
I'm not a fan of it, but on paper Randle scores more points, about the same on assists and rebounds, worse on defense. Doesn't sound like something Ime would be interested in from what we've seen so far. I really hope they don't remotely look at anybody other than Brunson if we're trading with the Knicks.
The usual idiots happy someone is making up rumors about trading our best player. Dumb can’t be fixed.
Though there is some truth to the rationale I do think it’s a risky business. They better get a f***ing good return if it ends up being the case. OTOH, that’s Giannis music, no?
Don’t buy it. If we had selected Clingan, I’d be more worried. If we had traded for an additional pick for Ware, I’d be worried. There is no Lively or Ware available. Kessler I guess. I’d deal Sengun for a handful of players. No combination of feasible Knicks assets exist. Mark Williams (if healthy)+Brandon Miller+ 2025 First would be a feasible package I guess.
