Anthony Mackie faces a Brave New World as the Marvel universe's new Captain America. Marvel dropped the first trailer for Cap 4, titled Captain America: Brave New World, which continues the journey of Mackie's Sam Wilson. The Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021) told the story of Sam assuming the mantle of the star-spangled Avenger after Chris Evans' Steve Rogers — vibranium shield included. Now, Mackie headlines his own Cap movie. The film also brings in Harrison Ford, who takes over the role of Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, following the late William Hurt. Ross is now president of the United States and tasks Sam with reconstituting the Avengers team, but everything goes awry when a sleeper-agent conspiracy is uncovered. A sneak peek screened exclusively at CinemaCon in Las Vegas first gave the hint that there would be major Captain America: The Winter Soldier vibes. Similar to how Helmut Zemo (Daniel Brühl) could activate Bucky Barnes' (Sebastian Stan) brainwashing in that movie, turning him once again into a sleeper-agent assassin, Carl Lumbly's Isaiah Bradley (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) is now one of various individuals activated by a mysterious sound that forces them to attack the president. The incident leads both Sam and Ross to realize the president's inner circle has been breached. "It made more sense for it to be more of a grounded espionage action movie as opposed to aliens and airplanes coming through portals and s---," Mackie previously told Entertainment Weekly. "Even though I've been in so many of them and have seen it all now, the opportunity for Sam to really establish himself as a true action star and Avenger comes with this movie." Captain America: Brave New World features Danny Ramirez's return as Joaquin Torres, another face from the Disney+ series, destined to become the next iteration of Falcon. Shira Haas will play Ruth, a member of the U.S. Government, and Tim Blake Nelson will return as Samuel Sterns, a.k.a. the Leader, for the first time since his debut in 2008's The Incredible Hulk. Giancarlo Esposito now also has a mysterious villain role to play following fairly recent reshoots. "This movie is a clear reset. It really reestablishes the idea of what this universe is and what this universe is going to be," Mackie told EW. "I think with these movies, you're getting a clear, new branding of what Marvel is headed towards the same way they did with Captain America: The Winter Soldier." Directed by Julius Onah, Captain America: Brave New World opens in theaters Feb. 14, 2025. Watch the trailer above. https://ew.com/captain-america-brave-new-world-trailer-anthony-mackie-8676171
The theme of the book "A Brave New World" is interesting. It seems the author was fine with genetic engineering and believed that we ought to genetically select better kids in order to avoid a Brave New World. The Brave New World that he is critical of is created because the government is conditioning the genetically imperfect to be normal and obedient and less interesting. It is written as contrast to Orwell's 1984, where big brother rules with brutal oversight in order to ruin society. The author thought government would get tired of brutality and imprisonment and look for a more efficient way to rule through conditioning of the people like a dog with treats. How this will be attached to Captain America, I don't know, if at all.
They did SOOO many reshoots and still never got test audiences to like Captain Falcon, this movie is going to lose all of the money. I'm just hoping it's bad in a way that provides good memes like Morbius rather than just boring bad like Madam Webb or basically every non spiderman MCU movie since Endgame.
