Hader -- he's getting paid all that money, yet has a 4+ ERA. He seems fragile too -- maybe he's been misused a few times, but it's sad you can't expect your closer to be effective b2b games or 2x in 3 days. Bregman -- Contract Year, and he's barely serving a 700 OPS. The nickname "Pops", has been well-earned. Diaz -- he's been much better recently, but considering last season, a low-700 OPS is very disappointing when he was mid-800 last year. Jabreu -- his Guinness-level suckage probably takes the cake, but he's gone now Chas -- sub-600 OPS after his ballin mid-800 last season Framber -- he's been up-and-down, but good overall. He allowed one inning to raise his ERA 1.25 points, turned a sure W into an L, and costed himself an All-Star appearance. Hunter -- he's been pretty awesome for a while, but he's simply returning from the depths of hell (April), which led to losses and taxed the bullpen for weeks. Pressly -- although his advanced stats have been good (supposedly) all season, his ERA has mostly been piss poor and it's led to losses. Many factors to consider there (i.e. Jabreu's defensive f*** ups and Dubon chasing flyballs in CF when Meyers was available). Esapda -- he's new to the manager position and learning, but management chose him for the job. 1) pitching Hader too much (4-run leads, etc) 2) Bregman at cleanup with a sub-700 OPS for weeks 3) questionable PH decisions 4) questionable defensive decisions 5) Perhaps, leaving pitchers in too long ____ Injuries McClure/JV/Javier/Urquidy -- they are all candidates for obvious reasons ____ I think Jabreu is the most obvious answer (2 choices in the poll), but introduce a "next worst" and post a top 5 (or more), if you choose. Mine is: 1) Jabreu 2) Hader 3) Hunter 4) Bregman 5) Chas 6) Espada 7) Diaz 8) Pressly 9) Framber
Abreu didn't disappoint because I expected him to be horrible. Hader was my choice. If he had been what I was expecting, we would be 12 over .500 right now probably.
How is Verlander not an option. Gave up their top 2 prospects for him, he’s making $35M. He’s only given them 57 innings of pitching like a #4 starter.
Abreu with a 700 OPS would still be disappointing -- but he took it further by serving 300. Nobody expected him to be *that* bad. He also sent a shoutout to the 90% catch-prob popup that was never touched.
JV would consist in the "other" and "injuries" portion and he's definitely a candidate. When considering the 2 prospects (given up last season), he did perform pretty well last year with a 3.31 ERA. He's no doubt a huge disappointment, all things considered. Shoutout to sore necks... I mean, incoming Tommys.
A dumb trade at the time that looks even worse now. But the worst part was GM Crane spending 30 million per year on Abreu and Montero instead of resigning JV.
I expected Abreu to be terrible. Hader is a bit surprising but closers are weird Chas has been my biggest disappointment
Some Hader fairness, he made himself available for pitching more, dropping previous restrictions. Thats arguably more gamer than fragile. But they misjudged his effectiveness in essentially changing his role. He still should be way better than he's doing, though I see Chas as classic disappointment. He's had enough years proving he is adequate, opportunity there for him, but just has been bad. Which means Bregman qualifies the most with that standard. Inexcusably terrible start for player of his pedigree. Hunter and Yainer have more young player "still growing pains" leeway, similar with Pena. Where they might even out between their highest projection and their low points. Disappointing, but not "too" uncommon for young players in 2nd full-year
I've stopped being fixated on the Astros. Now I'm fixated on the Texans. I admit preferring better teams as long as they play real football or baseball. So a limited bandwagon fan.
Hunter Brown most disappointing? What in the ? And the responses in this thread are baffling to me. Hader? I mean, marginally disappointing, sure, but compared to Chas and Verlander? Most disappointing: 1. Verlander 2. Chas 3. Abreu (only this low because the disappointment was expected) Nobody else has been a disappointment. We have been the best team in baseball for almost two months now.
Abreu is in a category of his own so I didn’t use a vote on him but in no order these 3: Espada Chas Pressly
Consider Brown's entire season, instead of the past 40 days. Entering the season, if you were told he'd have a 4.48 ERA on July 12th, would you have responded, "yeah, great !!!" ?? ____ Hader's ERA is almost double his career average.
MLB average is 4.05 (including relievers), Stros average for starters is 4.30, so for a young back of the rotation guy I'd say "sure"
