What would Trump say about Abbott?

Would he mock him like he did that guy in the crowd, or would he do like he did with John McCain? "I like my governors to stand during the anthem"......

This seems like a poor idea.....

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/abbott-says-texas-could-resurrect-005352729.html

Gov. Greg Abbott said Wednesday that Texas would consider challenging a 1982 U.S. Supreme Court decision requiring states to offer free public education to all children, including those of undocumented immigrants.

"Texas already long ago sued the federal government about having to incur the costs of the education program, in a case called Plyler versus Doe," Abbott said, speaking during an appearance on the Joe Pags show, a conservative radio talk show. "And the Supreme Court ruled against us on the issue. ... I think we will resurrect that case and challenge this issue again, because the expenses are extraordinary and the times are different than when Plyler versus Doe was issued many decades ago."

The remarks came days after a leaked draft of a forthcoming U.S. Supreme Court opinion revealed that a majority of justices are poised to revoke Roe v. Wade, the landmark case establishing the right to abortion.

Although the court has yet to officially issue a ruling in the case, civil rights advocates have raised concerns that the court's conservative majority might be amenable to other attempts to overturn established precedent, including those related to LGBTQ rights and interracial marriage.

Abbott raised the possibility of challenging the ruling on education during a discussion about border security, after Pagliarulo asked whether the state could take steps to reduce the "burden" of educating the children of undocumented migrants living in Texas.

    Here's the exchange in full:

"We're talking about public tax dollars, public property tax dollars going to fund these schools to teach children who are 5, 6, 7, 10 years old, who don't even have remedial English skills," Pagliarulo said. "This is a real burden on communities. What can you do about that?"

"The challenges put on our public systems is extraordinary," Abbott said in reply. "Texas already long ago sued the federal government about having to incur the costs of the education program, in a case called Plyler versus Doe. And the Supreme Court ruled against us on the issue about denying, or let's say Texas having to bear that burden. I think we will resurrect that case and challenge this issue again, because the expenses are extraordinary and the times are different than when Plyler versus Doe was issued many decades ago."

What do we do about all these children who are growing up in our state who don't speak English? Well, definitely don't teach them English! Brilliant policymaking.

Texas governor invokes Invasion Clause in U.S. and Texas constitutions in response to migrant crisis

“I’m using that constitutional authority and other authorization and executive orders to keep our state and country safe,” Abbott tweeted.

The governor said the actions will allow him to deploy the National Guard to “safeguard and to repel and turn back immigrants” trying to cross the border illegally.

The Texas Department of Public Safety will also be allowed to “arrest and return to the border” immigrants who cross the border illegally or commit a crime, Abbott said.

According to Abbott, the State of Texas plans to build a border wall in multiple counties on the border, deploy gun boats to secure the border, designate Mexican drug cartels as terrorist organizations, enter into compact with other states to secure the border, enter into agreements with foreign powers to enhance border security, and provide resources for border counties to increase border security efforts to “respond to the border invasion.”

Begging the National Guard for help is socialism. Instead do what you'd do if we seceded.

I heard something about lowering my property taxes - focus on THAT! (Sorry teachers, it's coming out of your pay. GOOD LUCK).

Now, hell is Houston, and hotter than ever, and just like scumbag Cruz, gun loving Greg's priorities are piss poor, by flying off before the hurricane. He needs to suffer a bit like other Texans, but that will never happen. Oh, and yes, once again he will pass the buck, while millions endure the black steering heat because the power company was too ill prepared to handle a Cat 1 hurricane. This state is a mess. Between the skyrocketing electric bills, power grid failures, and having Centerpoint screw the pooch. If this state couldn't get federal aid it would never survive on its own, and these worthless jerks in the GOP talk about becoming independent.

Yep. Always an excuse for our crappy grid, crappy power co., and total unpreparedness to keep millions from suffering too damn long. I'm in Louisiana until the power comes back. Couldn't get Internet or a mobile signal, and the heat was too much, so we just got the hell out of Houston Tues morning.
