It's really asking a different question than mine and it's a lot more vague. What does it mean to be optimistic about Jalen's future? The answer to that likely changes to everyone who hears it. If a person is very optimistic that Jalen becomes the next Kobe and another person who isn't a completely delusional idiot is very optimistic about Jalen becoming a solid 6th man one day would answer this poll the same way.
in a vacuum, perhaps, EM a better choice? Cleavesburg is now looking to move Allen or possibly Mobs because? Because the ceiling has been lower than thought with them together. Or with Mobs alone. Not a crisis just a headache that requires resolution. The monarch butterfly’s wings would have wiggled such that Alpi would never have made it to TheToyShop. My perception, and one that is highly defensible, is that this is YEAR II. Not Year IV. The ****-up that was the devolved development from the FO’s benign neglect towards succeeding ere-Ime is biting bitterly on the butt if young Mr Green.
Lol yeah, I've seen that cope quite a bit.... and usually from the same people who wouldn't have given KPJ that same excuse despite a MUCH harder situation his first 2 seasons. I'm just not big on making excuses for guys who were given every advantage and given the green light to do whatever they wanted from day one.... priorized over everyone. I think it's just fine to admit that Jalen has been terrible for his first 3 years and it's his fault. He still has half a season to beat those bust allegations, we'll see if he can do it.
Safe to say that Green did not warrant all these threads and attention fom either you or his Greenies in the first three years.
This is fair. Personally, I really need to see a lot out of Green the first 40 games to feel good about things. However, If he is still very inconsistent, we will have just run out of time to make the decision to really commit to him. And if that occurs, there is definitely a significant chance that he flourishes in year five or six it just won’t be here.
It seems the voting is about over. I would conclude the optimist and pessimist crowds are about equal. However his future turns out, lots folks will be wrong, and about a equal number, right. I voted somewhat pessimistic, his potential is definitely there, but harnessing ones potential is what counts.
On the fence = sipping coffee. while you guys tear yourselves up over him yet another season. One round of meditation.
Am I alone in the belief that all Jalen needs to do to meet expectations is to commit to being a plus defender every minute he is on the court? During the “stretch “ last season he did that. As soon as the chance to make the playoffs was gone, he went back to lazy defense and he stopped being elite. It’s a level of focus and “give a ****” that’s not there. Elite players show their focus on defense because it’s the one thing that is non negotiable. Shots don’t fall… so what, go get it back.
You are alone. He needs to focus when he is on defense. He also has to be consistently good on offense or he will not have earned the max.
What I saw was that the offensive consistency came with the defensive focus. I think it comes down to how much he cares about any particular game. In short, when he cares he’s elite. I’m just not sure he cares.
It’s a valid supposition. I think it is probably the other way around. If his shot is falling he is more focused on both sides of the court. It looks like he is easily discouraged which could be a youth thing or it could be just who he will always be. The problem for the rockets is they are running out of time to figure out the real Jalen Green.
That’s true. The drafting of very young players has put much more pressure to demonstrate greatness very quickly. The rockets did Jalen a disservice with the way they developed him under Silas. I’m of the opinion that Jalen will be an all-star type player at some point, but it probably won’t be for the rockets, because of the new cap rules, the high potential of all the youngsters on the team, and the fact that they will have to make the decision this year. He has to take a real leap this year in consistency or he will be gone.
Let's hope. Because I don't see anyone on the roster than can replace Green's role. So that means if he doesn't make a leap they need to go and someone outside the roster like a Mitchell which is something I wouldn't want as I want all the main core parts of the team to be home grown talent.
Yes. We agree on that. Nobody on this roster has the ability to break down defenses in the half court other than Jalen. That’s why I have been promoting Jalen insurance all off-season. A stopgap guy like brogdon until Cam, the tax man or a traded for star can take the role. How jalen plays is the biggest determinate of whether we are a playoff contender.
I'm sure many players on the current roster could fill the mindless chucker that is worthless on defense role that Green has filled these past 3 years.
He potentially could be a 3 level scorer with good defense. When he’s on a game, he impacts winning more than anyone on this team. He’ll be a superstar if he becomes more consistent, or a 6th man if he doesn’t. My optimism is at about 60%
You blind hate for Jalen is very well documented. Only the greatest of haters refuse to see that Jalen is the only guard on this team that can break defenses down off the dribble. Ime has said as much many times. You should just chill for a while, odds are that Jalen will be gone to another team at the latest after the season and probably at the trade deadline. Then you can focus on Stone to satisfy your need to b**** constantly.
