So Carter's data is saying 45 degree arc is bad. No wonder tmacs shot was automatic.

I'd imagine 42-43 is more optimal. Jabari could take some notes on this. It's pretty noticable how KD has a few more degrees of arc and is a lot more accurate.

I think it is saying that 45 degrees is good:

This is the full quote from the article:

He's saying slightly lower than what he used to believe was the ideal shot which was a high arching shot, but now he believes the ideal shot approaches at 45 degrees. He's saying 45 degrees is one of the ideal metrics.

I've always thought that high arch gives the ball a wider angle to enter the rim thereby giving more margin of error. 45 degree is the most efficient in terms of the force needed to push the ball to a destination point thereby giving you better range.

    Physics.

Great... half the people on the planet got pissed when they brought math into basketball, now you go and bring physics into it. Thanks a lot, Purvis.

Glad you got the reference. :D I still can't believe those shots that he used the backboard to bank in his high-arc shots in that video. I remember reading a story about him where he wasn't a very good ballplayer until around his junior year of high school (?) when his high school coach taught him to shoot with arc while holding a broom up for him to shoot over. This stopped him from taking line-drive shots. He said that changed his career because it completely changed his shot.
