I'll start with my particular need and frustration. I want a single platform for controlling both a smart door lock and a smart thermostat. Does that exist? There are some companies dedicated to locks but they don't do other things. If the devices have to come from different companies, I can be content with a single app that can control a multi-brand portfolio of smart home products. Leads?
I am assuming you haven't used Google Home. It integrates well over a thousand brands. The only thing of mine that doesn't work with Home is MyQ.
Yeah, I was fixated on finding a single brand doing the requisite things, but a platform that integrates everyone looks like the way I'll have to go.
my parents have a traditional idiot home. but couldn't smart homes get hacked? say if your phone is compromised?
I don't care about having a single brand (I figure I could try to combine most of this in Google Home, but I don't want to), but I use the following brands/apps: MyQ (actually linked to Tesla, so the garage door automatically opens and closes when we arrive/leave) Lockly for one of the doors Arlo (doorbell and a multitude of cameras, and one of the security systems) Nest/Google Home for AC and an additional multitude of cameras Ring for some cameras Rachio to control the water going to the pool and spa and for a hose Rainbird for the sprinklers Somfy Tahoma for the motorized patio screens (and soon for some motorized blackout blinds and screens) Sensibo for the garage AC and some air quality monitors Alexa for Kids' Echos and some air quality monitors Sutro for pool monitoring Waterguru for monitoring the spa iAquaLink to control pool and spa (jets, temperature, etc.) Sonicare and Sonicare Kids for brushing teeth Philips Hue for some lights Used to have Owlet Care Smart Sock to prevent SIDS, and Nanit Used to have Panasonic Comfort Cloud for remotely controlling a different AC Engbird for monitoring temperature of pool, spa and ice bath Generac Mobile Link for the generator FPL app to analyze energy consumption Gardyn app for the Gardyn hydroponic indoor gardening thingy Beatbot for the pool robot Eightsleep for bed cooling and sleep monitoring The Tesla Fridge app for the Tesla sub-trunk fridge AT&T Smart Home Manager iRobot app elgato Control Center for some lights MyDyson app for an air purifier Bang & Olufsen app for some speakers (Beoplay/Beosound A9 etc.) BoseConnect for some other speakers Skylight calendar/photo frame app A multitude of health tracker/sensor/health product apps (Oura, Ultrahuman, Whoop, Withings, Freestyle Libre, Samsung Health, Hyperice, etc. etc. etc.) For mobility, the Tesla and MyPorsche apps (mostly for pre-cooling the cars, but in Tesla's case, also to annoy my wife by using the farting functionality - never gets old). NextBase IQ app for Dashcams in the Porsche. Burmester app to finetune Porsche sound system. One thing I don't have yet but am looking into is Flair for "smart vents". Probably still forgetting some stuff. In case you haven't noticed, I am an absolute gadget freak/nerd. P.S.: Please don't hack me. Thanks.
I considered it, but I already have two Tesla chargers installed (did that when we bought the house), and I have an adapter for the Porsche. I don't actually know what we are paying specifically to charge the cars (FPL doesn't seem to provide that breakdown), and we would probably save some money by having their chargers installed instead, but I am happy with my current setup and can't be bothered...
I just wish they'd find a way to make it work with CarPlay. Would be nice to be able to open my garage door from my screen.
I actually bought a DCS Series 7 Outdoor Gas Grill when we first moved here and had it installed...never used it. Actually, somehow we are too dumb to turn it on lol.
