Hell, I think that should be 4 of the starting 5 right there. 3,3,3,3,5.

    Would you do this trade....

BRK: Brooks (HOU) + Tate (HOU) + 2027 BRK swap rights

UTH: Dorian-Finney Smith (BRK) + 2 2026 SRPs via HOU

    HOU: Cam Johnson (BRK)

Supposedly Cam is on the trade market and BRK is looking for a first...
    https://www.si.com/nba/suns/news/former-phoenix-suns-forward-has-strong-trade-interest

BRK controls their destiny. Clears up more 2025 cap space.

UTH picks up a serviceable player on a decent contract AND gains 2 SRPs.

Cam is on a contract very close to Brooks but is a better shooter. Now if he rediscovers his defensive chops....

Plus you can trade him in 2 years to open up cap space in 2027 (or before)

HELL no, that 2027 swap has massive potential. Obviously dumping brooks has a lot of value but this is way too much to give up

Our area of need is point guard. (the after FVV is gone) which was addressed on draft day. Then a much lesser need of a long term back up center was addressed the day after the draft.

All we really need to do is dump Dillon Brooks. (Open up playing time for others and clean up salary cap) His return doesn’t need any playing time and have a quick ending contract. A super restricted second round pick that never happens would work best.

    Time is all need.

If my dream random trade came true

Brooks, Adams, Landale, Tate & most of their picks.
    …for…
    Kevin Durant

I think this would get us a quick championship and development at the same time. The Suns get their future back too. Most of their return is expiring or has team options.

The Nets of today won't be the Nets of 2027.
Sean Marks wants to save his job and Tsai won't stomach losing for long.

They are clearing out massive amounts of cap room for the 2025 free agent class + they have their pick back now.
Presume they dump Cameron Johnson & DFS (cuz they're trying to RN), but re-sign Claxton & move Brooks with 1 of their NYK picks)
They have plenty of room and picks to trade for a star or 2.
Say they decide to just go the FA route.

2025 FA class (likely available): I wanted to kinda get a vibe who HTown could target in 2025 as well
    Sam Hauser (BOS)
    Larry Nance Jr (ATl)
Caris Levert (CLE) he's back baby!
    Aaron Gordon (DEN - PO)
    Jamal Murray (DEN)
    Tim Hardaway Jr (DET)
    De'Anthony Melton (GSW)
    Kevon Looney (GSW)
    Fred Van Vleet (HOU)
    Steven Adams (HOU)
    Myles Turner (IND)
    Ivica Zubac (LAC)
    Terence Mann (LAC)
    D'Angelo Russell (LAL)
    Bobby Portis (MIL)
    Rudy Gobert (MN)
    Naz Reid (MN)
    Jose Alvarado (NOP)
    Julius Randle (NY - PO)
    Jalen Brunson (NY - PO)
    Alex Caruso (OKC)
    Kelly Oubre Jr (PHI)
    Dalano Banton (POR)
    Trey Lyles (SAC)
    Tre Jones (SAS)
    Devonte Graham (SAS)
    Bruce Brown Jr (TOR)
    John Collins (UTH - PO)

    Murray // Alvarado
    Thomas // Caruso // Whitehead
    Hauser // Levert
    Portis //
    Clowney
    Claxton // Sharpe

That doesn't include their 2025 pick (that they have back now).

My point (remains) they can put together a decent team by the time 2027 rolls around & they can do it starting next year.

The Nets of 2024 - 2025 won't be the Nets of 2027. The won't have to "tank" for long if they don't want to.

Cam Johnson would be an upgrade over Brooks RN and helps us start establishing our ship window.

You want to win a ship in the next year or 2... gotta go through OKC.

Need to be in the 2nd round this year in my IMHO so the gang is battle tested for next year and can target WCF / Finals.

Murray resigned in denver, nobody else on that list matters. 2027 nets could and likely will be a bottom 5 team

Actually the only thing wrong with this lineup is we wouldn't have good defense at the 2 but other than that this would be fire!

They're just now starting a rebuild, it simply takes time. It doesn't matter if he wants to be awful or not, without good players they will be terrible. They don't have a top 50 player, probably not a top 100 player so what's the pathway? Even if they get the 1st pick next year, the guy they draft will still only be 21 in 2027.

It took us 3ish years to rebuild / tank - most of that was cause we had to wait to shed some contracts (Wall)

Nets don't have to wait. Will have three young-ish pieces (Cam Thomas, Claxton, Sharpe).

What metric are using for "top" player? Claxton is 64 in VORP. Houston had 3 in top 100 this year (and we literally had just added 2 = 1 via draft & 1 via FA).

If that 21 year old is Cooper Flagg that could go along way.

I dunno man... you want our experience to be other teams' experience and every team (and year) is different.

Plus GMs learn and evolve. Houston went the tank route - mainly because we had to protect our picks from OKC (TY TF & Westbrick).

Thx to our trade with BRK = they could conceivably tank this year and then use their cap space to pickup "star" players (FA or trade) & be competitive.

I'll keep saying it: BRK this year will NOT be BRK of 2027.

Marks is a decent GM & if Tsai said "Tank this year & PO the next year", I think Marks will try to make it happen.

    Ladies and gentlemen,
With the draft over and FA underway, I think we can close this thread at 125 and start a new one for this next season. BTW, it's worth going back through some of the early pages for ideas and laughs. I'll put the new one out in just a minute.

So their best player in claxton? I'm good with that. It's certainly possible they can be mediocre by 2027 but hopefully not

Adding that contract wrecks any chance of having cap space in the next 3 years and makes paying more than one of your current young players (Green, Sengun, Jabari) to a max deal.

The way Stone set his timeline, he's going to be able to play in FA and keep his own guys coming off of rookie deals (if he wants to).

Sure, there's a price point where I say yes to adding Lavine's contract but that likely starts with at least two unprotected picks from a team likely to be early in the lottery otherwise, I prefer my current options - play in FA, then come to terms with Sengun and Jalen (maybe - IF he earns it) once I'm above the cap.

Ya it would have to be a decent price, but brooks deal is the same length so getting out of that is a massive bonus. Jalen would probably be in the deal so that would save us from his next contract as well

I'd rather just play who is on the team now. Even if that is a middling pick in 2 years you could draft a older player. Meaning if the Rockets can not every single one of their picks along with stronger salary cap restrictions. Drafting a Dalton Knecht or Jamie Jacuez type player could replace the minutes for a player that the rockets could not afford to play.

It also could just be added to the ammo of the other picks to trade for a player as well. Cam Johnson is not worth all of that. Even after considering all of what I just said what player do you want him to take minutes from???????
