Sengun is 100% going to get the max, relax. Even if he has to wait another year he won’t be cheated a dime. I really don’t understand all the panicking.
Waiting a year allows us maximum flexibility to land more talent to go with Alperen, too. That, or some of our young guys make big jumps and we don't need to get mercenaries... (I think that is what Udoka/Stone are hoping for...)
It's mostly just people who are SOF/don't understand how the nba cap works and how cap holds and all that work. No legit fan, who understands that stuff would want to see sengun get extended this offseason because there's no benefit to it, only cost.
Yes and that sucks, but those are the rules of the game, the Rockets have every right to wait another year and there’s really nothing that can be done about it.
So the Raptors and the Pistons front offices are full of dumb clowns who don't understand things that you understand. Gotcha.
Raptors and Pistons are further behind the Rockets in terms of a rebuild. Rockets have more talent and a better coach compared to those teams. When you're in a more desperate situation, the timing just did not allow them the luxury of waiting so they just maxed out their best players. The Sixers, on the other hand, just did the same thing to Maxey that the Rockets are planning to do to Sengun. Another leap forward this year for the Rockets could feasibly see this team land an impact player next summer then we could go over the cap to re-sign Sengun using his bird rights. Smart move from a roster construction standpoint.
What’s the cap hold for each of those guys and the cap space situations? Also, I would generally say that those are 2 of the 3-4 worst run franchises of the last 4-5 years
All of these cap space discussions for having one year of Reggie Bullock-caliber players in a season where you don't contend for anything would be hilarious if Alpi made All-NBA next season.
If that's the case, why would any team want to sign an extension with rookies? Why wouldn't every team wait till the RFA kicks in? What's the benefit of signing them early? Real question.
It’s always different for every situation. If the rockets had no cap space next offseason then extending sengun now would be fine. The higher the draft pick, the higher the cap hold (how much cap space the player takes up before the sign). Cade was picked 1st, his cap hold is massive so there’s very little cap savings by waiting to resign him. Sengun was a low pick so the rockets can get about 20 extra mil of cap space next offseason by waiting look at maxey this past season, he’s the best comp for sengun. Low pick who was an automatic max, but the team wanted the extra cap space. Philly wouldn’t be able to sign pg this offseason if they had extended maxey last offseason, as an example
Yup, someone explained this here in detail (maybe you?) and it does make sense to wait until next year. If he is injured or his level of play declines, that enables the Rox to avoid a max deal. Bad for the player yes, but it is a risk.
Yeah lol all the videos he posts look like his preparing for a bodybuilding contest or something. I hope he shoots 1,000 threes and 1,000 free throws a day.
Do we want individual player maximizing $ over organization making best move for itself for championship? The injury risk is from Sengun's personal wealth standpoint, and the waiting another year is in the interest of the organization to bring in another high level guy.
