I hope they sign him to a huge 3 or 4 year contract. Next year doesn’t matter if the Mavs are good, but hopefully they will hamstring themselves for 2-3 years down the road.
I think they only have MLE. But no state income tax in Texas (or Florida / Magic) as opposed to Kali.
The reason Zach Lavine's trade value is so bad is because he's 29 and he has 3 seasons left owed 40+ million per year. Green's trade value is monumentally better because he's on a rookie deal and he's 22. If the Rockets were to trade Green they'd be getting a lot more back.
Jalen is a much worse player and a rookie extension would be longer and more expensive both per year and overall than Lavine's deal. While Jalen is younger, Lavine is still in his prime and will be when his contract is up. Give Jalen a rookie extension and he's even less tradeable.
James Harden is projected to potentially earn somewhere closer to double that mid-level exception amount, with the Clippers interested in bringing him back in free agency, league sources told HoopsHype. Source: HoopsHype
Jalen and Zach were about equal players in the previous season (statistically, but by all accounts Zach has a poor attitude which is the real reason why teams don't want him), except Zach is on the downside of his career while Jalen's best years are ahead of him.
