Bullpen game was happening one way or the other in one of the next 3 games, may as well give Arrighetti and Brown a little extra rest. There's a mountain of evidence that the extra day is beneficial to performance, short and long term
Astros have 4 starters healthy. Going to have to have a bullpen sometime this week. Astros would rather have starters have extra rest (really this is almost normal rest now for younger pitchers) and one bullpen game than starters on regular rest and one bullpen game.
He simply has not been good. Personally I think they need to send him back to AAA for him to continue working on his frequency of contact. He is 1 for his last 15 with 6 strikeouts. This team can't afford to let him work that out at the MLB level. With Dubon playing so well and Diaz playing so much DH now, there isn't a place for him and it will get worse when Tucker returns. He ( and Chas) need to fix their issues because if they do, they can help this team in September (and October if they get there)
I really want to be wrong about Chas, but he nearly cost this team a win yesterday with 2 of the worst ABs I have ever seen. He isn't right. It may be physical but it could also be mental. It sure looked like he was trying too hard yesterday and simply did not think about the situation and have a plan going to the plate. A little leaguer watches every pitch until there is a strike in that first AB. Maybe it's on the coaches for not giving him a take sign? And - why take Singleton out there when the pitcher can't throw strikes and a walk is a great result?
After seeing how Abreu was handled, I think the youngster deserves more of a chance to figure it out.
I agree Abreu was given much more of the benefit of a doubt. However 2 wrongs don't make a right. You can't recover from a bad decision by making a similarly bad one. Maybe it wouldn't be, but it sure looks like it would be. Not playing him is the best way to maximize the run scoring in my opinion, but I hate seeing him on the bench. Send him down if you aren't going to play him.
I'm hoping that Singleton starting consecutive games is the final step of either building his trade value (likely DFA him butvsomevteam offers a lottery ticket before he is actually waived) or to verify he is not an answer. I understand faster, athletic players in the OF and not pigeonholed into 1b, but I still am confused why Cabbage and Loperfido haven't played there at all. Though, I agree with them being in the OF ahead of Dubon if those are the choices.
when this team had no backup 1b and no lefty bats on the bench, Singleton on this team made sense. But they have those in spades now. Singleton's pedestrian results and lack of speed and versatility really make him a bad option for a roster spot.
Chas has had some of the most non competitive ABs I’ve seen in awhile this last month. Hope He figures it out but needs to be in AAA
Both of them need to get sent down. What they're doing with Loperfido is just flat out wrong. He comes up and is playing, then they sit him when Chas gets back and now he's trying to find his swing again. Chas is having a bad year. Accept it and let him figure it out in the minors.
Agreed, but he was playing well before they started jacking with his playing time. 15 AB's isn't much of a sample size for a guy who's getting inconsistent playing time.
