Trump is his own worst enemy. He had the opportunity for four years to act presidential and blew it all four years. During the debate he acted presidential for about the first ten or fifteen minutes, but then his naturally impulsive nastiness got in the way, and he ended up shooting himself in the foot just like he did when he was president. I agree he should have stuck to substance instead of badgering Biden.

He lost. It's big news because 51 million people who have been hearing from the media Biden is still sharp as a tack finally saw exactly the state the POTUS is currently in.

I agree, Trump created this persona people like but he doesn't know when to snap out of it and when he is being utter ridiculous. It gets annoying and if he had a better balance between being serious instead of playing to the crowd so the crowd has something to meme about he would be seen in a much different light.

The first 10-15 min Trump was crushing it, got sidetracked and never recovered. Still I think he was solid and this is why most of Biden gaffes in the debate are accompanied by a Trump reaction.

I hope Trump starts focusing more on policy and substance like you say, I don't want to give Trump my vote so he can "beat" Biden... I'm voting for him because I trust he will fix this country and not for his personal goal of redemption.

Yeah Trump the huge policy wonk. Just the details in which he has lined out his policies in the past.

If true, this will be the worst political gaff in my lifetime.

If you don't know his policies by now, you're a joke.

He not only showed up for the debate, he let Biden hang himself.

The question now is will Biden show up for the second debate?

He has to if he’s staying in the race. You simply cannot do worse than how he already performed. The bigger question is why would Trumps handlers allow him to debate and risk Biden having a jolt of energy for the 2nd debate?

If Biden has any chance at winning the election with independent voters or dem voters thinking of staying home because of lack of enthusiasm, he has to prove that what we saw was just a bad night and not how he actually is 24/7. You can’t prove that with just ads or the occasional teleprompter 5 minute speech at a rally. If he’s staying in the race he has to change course and be out there making news being exposed enough to prove he’s still got it.

I personally think Joe Biden has been a really good president and in this day and age to have as much bipartisan accomplishment is something to be proud of. However I believe for the good of the country he needs to step aside. The voters will be voting for Kamala Harris anyways knowing that Joe has entered into that final stage of your life that we all have likely seen with loved ones, and knowing it’s likely Kamala is going to play a larger role in the 2nd term if he continues to decline. So you might as well endorse her and step down anyways if the voters are already going to essentially be voting for her.

I think it’s a real mistake to tread Dem and independent voters as if they didn’t see what we all saw. MAGA voters can go fck off.

So 6.5 % of the population might only support Biden at an 80% rate instead of 88%?

    Why is this a headline?

Vivek is asking the most obvious question.

Biden's handlers and the media have been lying to everyone for months, if not years.

He clearly has early stage dementia.

But they kept saying that's a conspiracy theory.

Obvious question: Who is actually running the country? It's not Joe Biden.

I don't think people realize or remember just how tight the margins are in elections now.

The last two have been decided by 100K or fewer votes.

Even minor blips matter a whole lot.

It is interesting to note just how many "fake news" and overtly liberal press outlets and commentators are calling for Biden to step down.

Imagine the shoe on the other foot. In Trumpistan you would get dragged out back and shot for questioning dear leader's faculties.

The battle of ideas and whose are better for the country is one thing, but in terms of who has the ability to course-correct and call balls and strikes (however imperfectly), it really isn't close.

because of the subtitle of the article if you click the link: "Trump and his allies are courting onetime Biden voters, aware that even a small shift among Black men in a state like Georgia could mean the difference between winning and losing."

and I don't think it's an accident that after publishing an Editorial Board piece telling Biden to take the weekend off at Camp David and consider dropping out, this is the lead news article on Sunday morning

African Americans are either in deep blue metro or deep red rural areas. They are not a swing demographic, going to some mythical all time high of 20% republican support in the demographic won't make any difference.
