He immediately corrected himself and said billionaires. Immediately.

True. But, Trump does want to make all the billionaires including himself trillionaires with his tax cuts for the top 1%.

The US government is a multi-trillionaire -- why do you want to take money from the working people of America, none of whom are trillionaires, and around half of which have zero net worth, and give the money to the multi-trillionaire?

Nick, not to unnecessarily prolong this exchange if it came to a natural close earlier today, but since I just ran across this recently published piece, thought I'd share it with the caveat that energy policy is by NO means a specialty of mine. There are plenty of energy industry folks here who will have much more to add about the technical points made in this piece; but overall, the argument made reinforces my original point that Biden's leftward policies resemble him going "full Bernie" (which I admit was partly facetious . . . but only partly ;) ).

fwiw and as always your mileage may vary.

Joe Biden’s Energy Policies Are Based on Fantasies and Fairy Tales

    https://www.realclearenergy.org/art...sed_on_fantasies_and_fairy_tales_1040660.html

    excerpt:

Last month, the Biden Administration’s radicalized EPA released its “New Source Performance Standards for GHG Emissions from New and Reconstructed EGUs; Emission Guidelines for GHG Emissions from Existing EGUs; and Repeal of the Affordable Clean Energy Rule.”

The Rule mandates a 90% reduction in carbon emissions from coal-fired power plants that choose the use of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology and is expected to further reduce coal-fired steam generating unit capacity from 181 gigawatts (GW) in 2023 to 52 GW in 2035, of which 11 GW includes retrofit carbon capture and storage (CCS). This reduction in generation capacity is the result of the probable loss of 660,000 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of coal-fired steam generating units -- from 898,000 GWh in 2021 to just 236,000 GWh by 2035. At present, coal-fired generation provides about 20% of the nation’s electricity – but that percentage increases dramatically during the summer and winter months being the peak seasons.

Anyone with even a basic understanding of math or economics can see that forced shutdowns of so much baseload capacity and its replacement with intermittent (read unreliable) wind and solar is sheer insanity. As we have noted in the past, even the Biden Administration’s own energy experts have warned time and again that these closures are already putting our grid at risk of not only short-term blackouts and brownouts – but outright collapse.

In fact, MISO modeling indicates that the region that widespread “load interruptions” of 3-4 hours day for up to 26 or more days a year is possible (perhaps likely), and would happen during the hottest days of summer and the coldest periods of winter, when millions depend on electricity to simply survive.

Biden’s policies are so egregious that 25 states have joined together in a federal lawsuit to stop the plan. They have been joined by labor unions, farmers, manufacturers, and countless others who understand what this reckless policy will do to our economy and the danger it imposes on the American people.
more at the link, and again, I am no energy expert, so I welcome constructive dialogue from the considerably more knowledgeable posters here.

I don't see where we disagree too much. I agreed in that I too think Biden has operated more progressively than what he campaigned on (and who he probably is/was at heart), and you've also stated the analogy of saying he's Bernie is a half-joke / over-exaggeration. Seems close enough.

As for the piece about energy, I'm less of an expert than you. I'll say that when reading terms like "sheer insanity" it comes off as unserious. So I google who it was written by and see it's from the "Chief Executive Office at American Coal Council" and then I look up the "ACC" and see the statement under their weblink says "The American Coal Council (ACC) advances the power, the promise & the pride of America's coal industry." and I giggle a bit - lol

As an unqualified dipshit I'll say - I've read that the pollution from coal is terrible and that natural gas is supposed to be a lot better, so if the argument is shutting off coal is dangerous because it provides a reliable steady "baseload" energy unlike intermittent renewables, my natural dipshit thought is - why not switch the "baseload" energy needed that coal is providing to natural gas until renewables are more steady?

I'm also probably less freaked out about the feasibility of electric cars compared to you. What freaks me out the most about electric cars, if I'm being honest, is electromagnetic radiation from sitting on top of a pack of batteries, because I am a dipshit-moron semi-naturalist who is innately untrustful and fearful that our health is not properly accounted for during this age of blistering fast technological advancement, there's just so much we (seemingly) don't understand about the human body and so many changes being made to our environment and lifestyles.

The lies flowed non-stop. Every time Trump spoke he started spurting another lie or two. Anyone who could ever trust this guy is a schmuck, and the perfect mark for a con man like Donald.

Yang has been one of Biden's most ardent supporters. It takes a lot to make him say this.
