There is no world where IQ and Jalen are worth even close to this amount. Let other teams cap themselves out with garbage contracts like this. I don't care if the new tv deal drives up the contract values it's still way too much.
Not unless he proves he can be consistent for an entire season. If not they should let him go into RFA and see what he is offered and only match deals that match his whole body of work and not just post ASB streaks. I hope he ends up with max contract playing for us because that would mean he finally put the inconsistency behind him.
Thats like your opinion, man. Fan perspective in regards to how owners should spend their salary cap has always fascinated me. You really need to include context into this line of thought. Do you think Jamal Murray is worth 4 years and 209M? What are the parameters for a player "earning" his extension?
The "special traits’ you talk about are physical attributes: vertical jumping, foot speed, body coordination. these are dumb things to be emotionally invested in, that’s not what fanhood is all about. I’m invested in the team and the city, and may occasionally get invested in a player who cares and fights and is easy to root for. But to get invested in a weirdo multi-millionaire, who plays like he’s afraid he’ll chip his manicure, ONLY because his jumping and running traits are elite? no thanks. However, if said player brings profits on my investment in the team, i.e. brings wins for the Rockets: heck yeah, I’ll celebrate, with gusto and not be embarrassed at all. So yeah, I’d be glad I was wrong or more accurately I won’t care at all that I was wrong. And I will celebrate on this forum, @fchowd0311 can just go and F himself, he won’t be policing who can celebrate and who can’t that’s how it is.
Brah we went over this. Your upbringing failed you in properly understanding what "masculinity" is. To you it's a superficial concept. Dude paints his nails he must care about not ruining them even though a large part of Green's criticism as a young player was going as fast and high towards the rim and hopefully out jumping defenders wrecklessly. That's why your criticisms are vapid and not respectable. You invoke gutter tier culture wars nonsense in evaluating Trump. I have more respect for drones like @deb4rockets who just regurgitate 3pt fg percentages as their only form of analysis because at least they don't judge players their character as humans based on superficial cultural bs.
This is my leaning as well. But what if he is consistent for 80% of the season? 70? 60? 50? In my mind, its hard to say it has to be 100, but equally hard to say what number it truly has to be.
So what does being consistent for "75-80%" of a season look like? What are the markers/stats that have to be met before you guys give the nod of approval? Which players would you point to as being consistent for full seasons that Jalen could look up to as a goal?
Good questions. IDK the answers, but lets take a hypothetical that has a reasonable chance to actually happen. Lets say this coming season, Jalen has another month like last March. Two more almost as good, 1 meh, and 2 bad. How would the various crowds around here react? The supporting crowd would be, I told you all, no one can argue that he isnt progressing now, see, we were right! The not so supporting crowd would say, but he still wasn't good for half the season, he is still not consistent enough, trade him while he has some value left.
Interesting echo chamber of green only fans in here lol Is there a reason that the professionals whose job it is to run an NBA team did not extend him this season since that would definitely save us money? Probably because they are not happy with his development and would like to see how he performs next season before they extend him. If they thought he was a budding star, and was guaranteed to be getting better and better, they would definitely have locked him up this year. Common sense. Cue the conspiracies
What claims do you think "Green only fans" are claiming? Who is advocating to extend him now? What is your literacy level at?
I get thinking he's not very good, but saying he plays like he doesn't want to break a nail is stupid and doesn't match the eye test at all. That was just a weak way to take a cheap shot at him for his personal choices.
So for shts and giggles Jalen needs to shoot what -- 38% minimum from 3? Get the overall FG% closer to 50 maybe? Another one of you guys said assist to turnover ratio was bothersome. Defensively he should be a more aware player. Finish at a higher clip near the rim? What else am I missing in terms of his developmental obstacles that need to be overcome for our fans? What exactly are you goings going to key in on in analyzing "better" play next year?
It's funny to read this after I saw the extension and decided to look at IQ's stats. And it's basically superior to Jalen Green's in all areas except raw point totals.
Unless the numbers are epically bad or extremely great, I am slowly coming to the realization that the numbers by themselves, wont dictate or determine Green's future. This forum is a testament to the fact that they will get viewed too many different ways.
If Jalen does all this next year, the Rockets will happily give him the max - and he will probably make the all-star team if he does that pre all-star game. I think the Quickley contract might be the market for Jalen if he progresses next year at the pace he progressed this past year. Not fixing all his flaws, just being marginally better in shooting, playmaking and defensive awareness.
Immanuel Quickley at 24 had a comparable season to Jalen Green at 21. You can argue he had a better year and I am not too interested in debating it, so lets say he had a slightly better year for this arguments sake. What makes Quickley more desirable long term than Green?
