I find it very telling that for the candidates you mentioned, the main things you focused on were skin color and gender and not on their platforms or their ability to lead.
Warnock cannot be on the ticket while Georgia has a Republican governor. Giving up a hard-won Senate seat is foolish.
It's all speculation right now. Biden has hit the campaign trail today. We've seen poll after poll show that many voters want someone other than Biden or Trump. The problem is that a generic "someone different" will always beat an actual candidate. Once an actual person replaces "someone different" they will have baggage, lies, and scrutiny that will drag them down. But it may not drag the new person down enough to prevent them from winning. In some ways, Biden helped by acting as the nominee until now. There wasn't the process of numerous candidates attacking each other and dragging each other down during a contested primary season. So whoever might take over as the nominee can come into the race much fresher than they would have. Whitmer would have least baggage. Newsome is good on a debate stage, and charismatic enough to win some people over. He does have baggage, is a political animal who will say things and do things for politics rather than principle. Harris has baggage, and isn't the best on a debate stage. She also has seemingly been hidden from media interviews lately which brings doubt as to her ability to handle those situations. I think any of the three could win, Newsome and Whitmer would have the best chance. I guess Newsome might have a slightly better chance and would be good and fundraising.
Wish he would kick Kamala to the curb and get either Whitmer or Newsom as his VP. That would be a solid start…
Perhaps. It also might help a candidate like Newsome and remove her from candidate contention if she were to remain VP for the new candidate. That has negatives as well. But she's been loyal and active for the party so I have no idea what will happen with Harris.
She isn't owed a coronation if Biden hopefully drops out. She should compete with every other candidate at an open convention, town halls leading up to it, etc.
A joke is better than a wannabe authoritarian dictator who is an enemy of our constitution and democracy.
Hillary Clinton needs to spend the rest of her time on his world in some beach vacation home away from politics.
It was an affront to god and man alike, but it seems the internet's forgotten Trump and Rubio comparing dick sizes.
Any of the above mentioned would beat crazy Trump and make him look too old. Kamala as a demonstrated poor campaigner would be the riskiest. Are any of them against risking WW III or starving the whole country except for the military industial complex for dear old Ukraine, Taiwan or Israel?
Exactly why I think running Newsome would be a mistake. California has plenty of problems to attack him on. If California is on an upswing in 2028, sure, but now is definitely not Gavin's time.
I mentioned the three people most prominently named in articles since last night. That was my criteria and limited sourcing. As for my focus, it is purely about electability. Perhaps I am too cynical. I think I’m being a realist. I’m neither saying it is right or wrong to discuss their skin color or gender. It is purely about reality of politics and the playing field as it exists in this moment. If we didn’t have Trump as the nominee and openly wanting to tear down democratic institutions, then we would have the luxury of focusing solely on policy, platforms and ability to lead. But in this moment, all that matters is electability. Nothing else matters. A scenario where a Biden withdraws with Harris on the ticket … doubly foolish not to factor gender and race in who should replace Biden. It is not a reality that I want, but it is where we are. edit: do I personally care if the country elects a white female president for the first time, or a person of color female president? A bit. All things being roughly equal, that would be a good thing in my mind. Should that be a criteria that lifts a bad candidate or bad person to office? No, not to me. But that’s my own view. But we don’t have time for my ideological preferences when Trump openly wants to tear down democracy,
If I could pick the person I'd want to vote for, it would be Buttigieg. I don't think a gay man is going to win a national general election, but he's the right guy, IMO, to run the country.
